@madbootsy: This is going to be the year I skip GOTY discussions on GB entirely. The discourse of criticisms on GB has absolutely tanked in the last couple years. Nobody can seem to fully articulate their feelings so everybody is just falling back onto marketing terms, pointless personal anecdotes, and meaningless descriptors. I used to look forward to the discussions, but last year was terrible and this year looks to be worse.

It's not being ignored, they talk about it on the last Bombcast and there is a QL up here. Probably safe to assume if they don't mention on the Beastcast it's because they haven't tried it, so the extend of commentary you would probably get would be "we haven't played it yet" which isn't a very compelling conversation to have.

Abby "The Queen of Cross Talk" let Jeff tell his college story. You are an important human being and loved by many even if you're not the center of attention every second.

Epyx made Final Assault for the Commadore 64, mountain climbing sim. It was completely baffling, but I put in many hours.

About the base camp discussion - I absolutely loved returning to the camp in Dragon Age: Origins. It was a really pleasant atmosphere, the music was great and it was a good time to catch up with the crew.

Vinny would be a lot more interested in this upcoming DMC show if Brad hadnt made a terrible mistake by choosing to play DMC1 for Bradley May Cry instead of starting with DMC3 like he should have.

Despite the recent Nature journal blunder, I don't think many people are saying climate change isn't occurring, the disagreements are around what is to be done about it. I'm interested to see what Civ VI comes up with, and if any solutions actually solve it vs impacts to doing little. If nothing is done, hurricanes, fires, sea level changes, coastal city desctruction, etc? An entire $40 expansion around it leads me to believe it will involve some detailed systems, but Civ has historically been pretty simplistic, so not holding my breath.

I watched about half of the Castlevania season 2. I kept wishing it was based on Legacy of Kain and not Castlevania.

Huh. I'll be honest I had no idea Dan's Obra talk had any spoilers. I won't repeat any here, but I think it's worth mentioning that the things he talked about actually got me interested and wanting to pick it up.

It actually surprises me that I assumed Dan would like it, considering the man has almost zero patience, especially when it comes to games that relish in their experience and world for any period of time. Dan and Jeff's unreasonable hate toward the game has me doubting I'll listen to the GOTY stuff at all this year.

You want to listen for the insanity! Like two people will say they want this game, and two other people will say they will ONLY budge if another game gets bumped and then all of a sudden you have like a game at the No.2 slot that no one all year long has even touched or talked about simply because of dealin' and wheelin' they do. It's like when Austin argued for Invisible Inc. and no one had really played it and cared about it.. and then suddenly because one person was really into it they kinda shrugged and put it on the list, a game that none of them thought worth their time to play all year round.

It's the absurdity of it all that is entertaining, like the list itself has absolutely no value whatsoever.

I've not made it to endgame, but knowing that Dan has said multiple times that RDR was his *favorite* last gen game, him hating RDR2 is pretty fucking strange.

Especially considering that RDR2 does everything 1 does but better, even IF you think RDR 2 has "bad" controls. I honestly think it comes down to Dan being impatient, especially with more story heavy games. I say this because I see this trend with him in these longer open-world games like this and The Witcher 3 that are more detailed in their storytelling, that live in the details and don't rush to the next plot point or action scene. That's fine, he has his tastes, but I find it more and more to be extremely shallow and I also think I found my kryptonite when it comes to game critics, and that's the impatient kind that don't seem to recognize it. Sadly, I'll be skeptical of Dan and Jeff's game reviews going forward that involve heavy storytelling and a more measured pace. They've just proven to lack patience and then often blame it on the game. Just hard to take that seriously.

I totally understand Dan's feelings on RDR2. I loved RDR1, and while I can recognize RDR2 is a good game, I'm struggling to have fun while playing it. Maybe it comes down to my patience for open world games has gone down, but I really wish I enjoyed playing it more. But it will probably be a game I go into a mess around with in 10-20 minute chunks.

Yeah, maybe, but last year damn near broke me with how frustrating it all ways, and now when you add that along with all this annoying RDR 2 stuff and goddamn, I don't think I'll find it at all entertaining like I did in years past.
