I'm really glad Patrick has went and explored all this stuff about EVE. Although I'm not particularly inclined to play it, it does have a really crazy community that's actually a great example of how a natural distributed system can work.

This EVE talk really brings me back to a lot of the early days of FFXI. While not as complex, there was still a hell of a lot of politics and rivalries between various "guilds". Some of them had cutthroat admission processes and it became a mark of privilege to be a part of some of the stronger ones. Eve sounds like it's exactly that tenfold, while that part of FFXI has long since died out.

That was great, can wait for more EVE talk :)

I tried EVE a couple of years back and while it looked beautiful I was really confused most of the time. The annoying thing is that I know if a couple of pieces of the game had dropped into place then...

EVE is interesting, but not as something I'd want to play myself. Something like Freelancer is the extent of what I can take space-wise, EVE is a bit too... passive for me.

@arx724: Eve is what you make of it. If you play passive, it's passive. If you are active, it's active. Somedays i'll just sit on my computer watching Jabber for pings. Other times I'll roam lowsec in a Blarpy or a Cynabal looking to engage.

Even Stellar Management has middle managers.

As a veteran eve player ive been wondering for long why this fantastic game doesn't get any love from the bombardiers. Finally! GG Patrick!

@valle: yeah, it's a great game if you have the time to learn the ropes, it also has a great community, especially for new players.

@quantical: Exactly, but the steep learning curve is also very much based on the mind-boggling amount of content and the variation of it, which in the long run is one of the biggest strengths with the game. I've been playing on and off for like 7 years or so and i learn new stuff all the time, not to mention huge chunks of content ive not even glanced at (yet).

@zakn: I'm generally fine with slower (turn based, etc) games, but space combat just doesn't excite me at all if I can't get into dogfights not based on stats.

(It changes every time. Until the theme is done.)

Patrick, you've totally sold me on this game. I going to get a PC just to play this thing.

EVE's craziness is both what makes me so interested in hearing stories about it and also ensures I will never ever play it.

Bulletpoints and talk don't just read something you wrote. Hate when people sound like fucking robots.

Liking the audio production on these interviews they sound much more professional than previous ones.

Eve isn't nearly as hard as people like to make it out to be.

We filmed all the interviews, so we had proper microphones. I'm hoping to increase the quality of regular dumptruck interviews as we go along...

I maybe don't really see the point of a 2 or 3 minute intro to a ~20 minute interview.
