Giant Bombcast Game of the Year 2017: Best World

It seems like most people agree with Jeff. As do I.

World meant to most people setting. Backdrop of the story and the backdrop of where our experiences took place. Not actually how good it was gameplay wise.

This could have been interesting talking about atmosphere, art direction, clothing, visuals, random dialog etc...

Instead several people on the site mistook world to mean gameplay mechanics.

Remember when Jeff asked everyone what this category even was? And then everyone just said what game they thought was good?

... yeah. Please Jeff, next time right the ship. Your instincts were correct and the audience would have greatly appreciated it.

Poor Jeff. Did I seriously just hear him get frustrated at the lack of clarity in this category, and then go SILENT for like, a half hour, until Wolfenstein 2 came up again?

What a mess! It's still a fun listen, but

What even was this category?! Painful but also hilarious to listen to, and I'm only half an hour in. Man, I feel for Jeff in this, nobody is picking up what he's putting down or they just pass it off into 'best story'.

I feel people get way to emotionally attached to their favorite GB crew members and somehow feel the need to defend them. After reading the comments I thought I would be in for a gigantic shitshow but this wasn't half as bad as the comments made me believe. I actually kinda liked listening to them distilling the actual meaning of the category and even ending up with a good top 3.

World-building and exploration are some of my favorite things in games so I really hope this category, in one form or another, makes its return next year.

I agree with Jeff but the way he went about things here was petulant and needlessly confrontational.

I agree with Jeff that this category need a better definition. I think I understand where Alex is coming from as game world get larger and better and why he wants to have a best world category, but if everything is to accounted for like he said then this might as well not be a best world but best game.

Remove this category for the next goty. It is painfully obvious that the crew let emotion take over objectivity and cohesiveness in deciding what constitutes "best world". All the duders in the comments echo Jeff's sentiments and justifiably so. When everyone is confused by a category, perhaps it is not necessary to begin with.

Man, this category really feels like someone came up with the category because they already had three games they wanted to win it, and then they got frustrated that everyone else had different ideas about it. I really think Jeff should've just taken the reins here, paused the recording, and made someone put their definition on a whiteboard off to the side. All the other categories this year were great, but this one was understandably missing from subsequent years.
