The last 3 movies I bought were Pacific Rim, We're the Millers, and Man of Steel on Blu-ray. I think that Max Payne, Hitman, and Uncharted were 3 games that had better stories than all of those movies.

Again, as Vinnie said, what movies are you talking about? The couple of emotional Academy Award chosen movies? I don't think its a fair comparison really. Schindler's List would make a horrible boring video game. Where as a fair comparison would be Ni No Kuni story wise was as good as any other Studio Ghibli film. It was equal (with HOURS random battle down time obviously which do hurt it). But story wise I think we see an equal. Its happened. A game as good story-wise as a comparable movie. Even Epic mickey, crap game, but story wise was as good as a Mickey Mouse film. I am gonna get hated here, but i think Bards Tale had some clout even compared to the Hobbit. And the Hitchhikers text adventure was better than any movie they've made of it, (not better than the books though).

So I think they are wrong and Vinnie was right; game plots or story telling have to be a little different and have play time which slows them down.... But the stories and ideas behind them are every bit as good as movies. Resident Evil was better than the movies. I think Uncharted 2 is better than most of the Indiana Jones movies (not the first). Enslaved did the Goku Monkey King story better than DragonBall, and I love DBZ! I can go on and on. Movies still tell a better story 90% of the time, because that is all they do and they have real actors. But don't dismiss game stories - I liked playing Deadly Premonition more than I liked watching Twin Peaks. And again , I bought D.P. because I love Twin Peaks. I bet Patrick likes the Telltale Walking Dead game more than the TV series?

I feel like games like the stanley parable that don't really tell a story but have fantastic writing might call for a possible best writing category, instead of or in addition to best story.Or whatever, its not like its missing out. Its fucking great and everyone knows it.

Also (perhaps particularly important for @brad since he mentioned it), the citizen kane of video games has been very cleary and unarguably established. It is rebel assault 2. See http://www.hitselfdestruct.com/2013/07/raising-kane.html (duncan fyfe is an amazing writer and this is a great piece)

I'm so with Vinny on video game stories, I've enjoyed more game stories than movie stories.

Ditto here. Brad was fighting the good fight, but Jeff once again filibustered him.

HOLY SHIT, they dismissed the hell out of Last of Us' soundtrack. That score is AMAZING, easily #1 and 2 are that and Bioshock with GTA in 3rd (don't own Nintendo products).

How is Lamar best new character? Kind of a silly end to this podcast. Anyways, good job with the SimCity lambasting, wish it went on longer. Playing catch up so I'm sure EA gets ripped a part more in the latter podcasts.

Very disappointing end to the best new character stuff for me. Jeff really forced his way in there for a character he didn't even remember until 5 minutes before.

Story discussion was interesting but I didn't care about either Bioshock or Last of Us characters by the end so I'm not a good judge there.

Definitely got soundtrack right though. Link Between Worlds was amazing.
