Giant Bomb LIVE! at E3 2015: Day 02

Bungie has already been pulling Destiny "out of the toilet" with their last two major updates. To me, new content is secondary to actually fixing the broken loot system, economy, gear, and other aspects of the game. That is EXACTLY what Bungie is, and has been focusing on for the past few months, and based on what they've shown and said, that looks EXACTLY like what they are doing with Taken King.

But they're probably also listening to the fans who actually like the game. The game is extremely popular still and from what I can gather fans on NeoGAF, Reddit etc. seem to be largely happy about what the updates has brought to the table and how the game has evolved. Sure it would be cool if they could bring in people like me who didn't really like the game, but they also have to listen to those who actually play the game now and by all accounts it seems like they have.

Woof. That was a rough segment for the Bungie dudes. Jeff ate them alive and every time they tried to joke around it just made things worse.

Whatever, I didn't have much hope for Destiny 2 anyway I guess.

The one thing I wish was brought up with the Bungie guys there is the grimoire. It needs to be in the game. There's no excuse for how shitty it is that they put all the stories background elements on a separate thing that most (or I assume most) people won't take the time to stop playing to go to a website to read.

Considering the criticism from last year, the almost total lack of women at the nightly streams this year has been really hard to overlook.

Fantastic show! Jeff is consistently killing it on the couch; you forget how good he is until he's sharing the segment with a dude that's actually on TV and is still the funniest one.

Wow. I remember Luke Smith from the 1up Yours, took me a second to recognize him. Now I feel like I'm doing this for far too long.

Is the video volume very low for anyone else?

@ejc93: How about instead we focus on the quality and entertainment value of the show this year? And then just be really pleased with the results so far. If you watch these shows and all you can think about is: WHY NO MORE LADIES!? I feel that the problem might lie with you and not with giant bomb.

Gerstmann is really knocking them out of the park the last couple of days. Hard questions, yet a collegial atmosphere, and funny to boot. No fluff, and no kow-towing to the industry. Hats off.

They will. Jeff is uploading these himself, so he probably didn't get to it last night. But they'll go up in the Bombcast feed.

Figured this wasn't meant to be Premium only... Was going to be the only E3 video that was flagged as premium.

So all you gotta do to pull your $60 purchase out of the toilet, is make sure you buy all of the additional expansions that allegedly fixed it.

It still boggles my mind, what an unfinished, content-thin mess Destiny was pre-expansions (I stopped playing before they came out, so that's all I will speak to).

A story that has almost no narrative, and a bunch of characters you don't know anything about unless you read about them on the internet. I still don't understand what happened in the intro video - did I get re-materialized to life? Why not do that for all of the skeletons sitting in rusted out cars?

It was beyond clear that this game had some sort of late-stage rework, that caused them to junk piles and piles of what was going to be the story, and try to cobble together the bits that were left.

And then beyond the lack of story, there was a comical lack of anything to do in the game once you hit the end of the story, except run the same handful of missions over and over until your eyes bled.

Core mechanics and presentation were polished, as you'd expect, but everything else was substandard by modern standards.

Jeff really is a great host. He can make fun of everything and be the most hyperbolic and ironic shouting guy in the room but he isn't afraid to get real and ask the serious though questions.

And the part with Xavier and the Harmonix guys was great as well.

super props to the bungie guys for inviting the pretty intense and clearly a little emotional discussion and to Jeff for not at all measuring down his criticisms. Woo.

What's with the consistent graphical glitches/artifacts throughout the video? It is the video right, and not just me?

The Destiny chat was super interesting. I put 200+ hours into that game, and then burned out hard. And even with all the updates and the new stuff in Dark Below and House of Wolves, I can't get back into it.

Xavier's introduction was great.

Video volume seems way lower here, I ended up having to watch it on YouTube simply because I could only just hear it even at max volume and I didn't want to pump my speakers too much in case I played something else later and blew my ears out. Still - top guests, and good interviews. Really enjoyed listening to the Bungie guys chatting about Destiny. In other news, that Dish of the Day song from the stream midsections was pretty fantastic. Not quite Lockdown status, but it was still excellent.

I went into the comments to see if anybody else was having the same problem. Yeah it's all over the place in this.

Last segment was gold. That D list celebrity burn was hilarious, but then Woods just rolls with it and makes it even funnier deflecting it to Verne Troyer, what a guy.

Boy the Destiny segment really makes the game sound even worse than when the guys normally talk about it

It's very cortious of Jeff to limit his frustrations with Destiny in front in one of the devs, but that game needs more to it. It feels like less of the budget should had been spend on celebrity voice actors and more of it on level design and boss combat design.

I don't think destiny is doing that at all... BUT IT SHOULD!!!! Ive been saying it should try to be more like warframe since it came out.

Ah, the MMO developer quandary: Give players what they ask for, they're swiftly satisfied and have little reason to keep playing. Don't and they quit in a huff.
