Great interview...I can't help but think Jeff was a little tough on the Bungie guys....but that's probably because I love the game so much I'm pretty biased.

They (Bungie) have been incredibly gracious with the community, feedback, and suggestions with real outcomes in the game over the first year its been out so there's no reason we won't see Destiny flourish and get better and better.

WoW. Fair play to the Destiny guys. They where very open about what's wrong with that game. Nice to see devs talking so openly about stuff like that.

I think Jeff's points about vanilla Destiny are totally valid, but a lot of those problems have been corrected in the current House of Wolves era of the game.

I had no problem burning through the weekly content grind in vanilla Destiny, but these days there's just too much stuff to cover. I'll run a couple of Prison of Elders, the Nightfall + Weekly Heroic, and do some Trials of Osiris on the weekend. That's enough to keep me interested and having a good time, without feeling like I'm doing Destiny chores just to eke out some gear.

The main thing that annoys me is the elements of the game that are held back because of the 360/PS3 memory issues. Once they can shrug those off with Destiny 2, I think things will really take off.

I can't watch this, html5 version is not there? It just tells me to use a flash browser. This one is premium, part 1 is on youtube. Is the entire video team drunk?

Somethings wrong with the download option.

"This is a streaming version of our archive. The locally recorded archives will be up on the site later". HTML5 and download options will work once the local recording has been uploaded. Using the stream archive gives a faster turnaround so people can watch sooner after the broadcast is over.

Part 2 should be on YT at some point, but for some reason it thinks they should still be live so hasn't switched to the archive yet.

I will never get tired of hearing Jeff rant about Destiny. Those guys took it well though. Great stuff all around. Also a wild Xavier Woods appears.

Holy shit, Jeff is relentless in this Destiny conversation. He's really getting into his honest opinions. The guy did literally ask for it, though. And to be fair, Jeff did also legitimately still play more than a hundred hours of that game.

Sorry nothing that Luke from Bungie said gave me ANY hope their will pull this series out of the toilet. Its nice they care and are thinking, I just don't think ANYTHING they are thinking is all that interesting. Its sad that they have an interesting world that is being wasting for its potentially for a cool story and engaging characters that don't exist in their minds.

Luke is a cool guy, Bungie is a cool company...but their game is not engaging with story, characters, or trajectory of events.

When the Bungie guy says the raid team was working in isolation from the rest, the natural follow up question is "Why?!". Jebus. So they're not working like that anymore? Great, but for some reason at one point in time /they thought/ that was a good idea (like they seem to think everything else they're doing is a good idea). That boggles the mind. How do you explain that other than by some incredibly misdirected paranoia about secrecy, like they're working on the A-bomb not a fucking shooter.

If they're listening to /a/ community I don't think it's one that Jeff would represent, certainly not the one I would. Destiny is the first game in probably 25 years that makes me angry. The design descisions are incomprehensible to me, from loading times to lack of text chat, lack of match making, lack of environmental interaction, lack of reasons to explore the world, etc, etc.

When the game comes out that people say "Yeah, this is what Destiny was /supposed/ to be" hopefully even the apologists will see the error of their ways.

Destiny is a social game where you're not given the tools to be social,

a loot game where you hardly get any loot,

and an expansive world game where there's nothing to explore in the expanse.

It's a shooter where you get hardly any XP for shooting things, but the reason to level is to be more efficient at shooting stuff.

It's a game whose design doesn't make a whole lot of fucking sense.

Destiny was built on arrogance. Layers and layers of arrogance. These guys saying they're listening is the hollowest of words.

Ugh. Like I said. Destiny makes me angry.

@eloj: You are extremely detached from the Destiny community. The game isn't what you want it to be, that doesn't mean it is a bad game with flawed design. It is exactly what I want it to be right now.

He is completely right. Bungie is listening very closely to the community, and not only that; they've effectively addressed every single issue people had with the game. To the point that I was actually surprised how much they did.

I get it. You don't like Destiny. Jeff doesn't like Destiny. The rant is on. But don't think anyone is an apologist here; people legitimately enjoy that game a whole lot.

Nice of Jeff to not hold back on what a shit game Destiny is.

I have not heard a single person talk about that game without hesitations or describing it as a boring sterile attempt at a video game from a studio that probably gets too much credit for being good at making games.

@eloj: I'm a lot more apathetic about the game than you are at this point, I think all my friends who enjoy it have sort of worn my criticism out, and now I just sort of do my best to ignore the game. Which is weird because I totally played a whole bunch of it when it came out, despite having all these gripes. I think I was mostly using it as a chat room, and like Jeff said the base mechanics aren't bad. Anyway, I completely agree with your points. It's a baffling experience, and I hope they get it right the next time around.

@fox318: that's your little circle of the world. I have tons of friends that love the shit out of the game and have sunk 1000+ hours. The value return on that is insane.

People can shit on the game all the want but for those that love what Destiny has to offer aren't sheeple dude...it is a lot of fun and always changing, improving in both PvP and PvE and you don't have to pay a monthly fee.

The amount of shit Destiny gets is absurd. Is it the best thing in the world? Abso-fucking-lutely not, but the way some people talk about it, you would think it's the biggest flop in all of games this past decade or something.

Honestly, it feels like the new CoD in that it's become "cool" to talk shit about it. That's the impression I get anyway especially after reading chat during the Destiny segment.

Loved the Destiny segment. Bungie has more than showed they are listening to feedback with the past couple major updates, and I'm stoked to see the changes they bring with Taken King. Just sad I have to wait three months for it! Also, I have zero interest in WWE, but Xavier Woods seems awesome!

I'm not a fan of the game, but yeah, the hate the game gets every time it's mentioned on a forum seems insane to me. I get that people are disappointed by that game, but there's a lot of disappointing games around. It's a game with a huge audience so millions of people clearly likes it, and I'm fine with that.

I love the difference how the Deus Ex guy and the Destiny guys acknowledge the problems in their games like the Deus Ex guy was joking about how the boss battles sucked and knows what people want while it seemed like Destiny is listening but wants to keep it Destiny-like.
