Why does it matter if Saint's Row 4 is in Steelport? The city rarely matters except as a backdrop, so I don't really see the issue.

I don't see why this is an issue for everyone either. It may be the same city, but you're traversing it from a much different style and angle. A slightly different layout with new looking buildings may have been nice, sure, but it doesn't really make much of a difference either way. It surely didn't hinder the enjoyment I had with it in the slightest.

It's an issue because the backdrop in an open world game is a pretty important since you spend 95% of your time roaming in the backdrop. An entirely new game should get an entirely new setting.

I disagree that it's that important. At least in a game like this. It's not like this is an Assassin's Creed game where you need to literally press up against most buildings and really become familiar with the intricacies of the level. In a game like Saint's Row and GTA you mostly just zip past buildings and places to get to the next mission. Like @wemibelec90 said, the cool thing about SR4 is that they give you a new way to see that same city which makes it feel fresh.

Well it's strange you should bring up Assassins Creed, since in SR4 you are pressing up against building much like you would in a typical AC game. So all those streets and corners you remember from playing SR3 for a vast amount of hours are now even more ingrained in your memory as you becomes even more intimately familiar with them thanks to the super powers. What I will give SR4, and it's a fine game for the most part, is that you get to explore the verticality of the city a lot more than before when you would pretty much never even see the tops of buildings from street level - it's kind of a testament to good city design that the same layout works so well now that you aren't tied down to ground level for the majority of the game.

I never felt like I got super familiar with Steelport in SR3, which is why I was okay with SR4 taking place in the same city. I actually played through SR3 literally right before I poppped in SR4 so I dunno. It's a matter of opinion I guess, and it just didn't bother me.

I'm a PC gamer to, but what's up with that pc loving attitude Brad? You were comparing PC with the new console systems and you practically make the new consoles obsolete with that cynicism.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think Brad saying the profile system on the ps3 is "real real bad" is a bit overblown. I think for his job it could be annoying creating a profile and putting in a email/password. I would think he would use his two activation's on his home ps3 and one at work?

I guess he's referring to the activation thing? Because making a profile on the ps3 and tying it to your PSN is super easy. Again, I'm probably wrong but I can't remember ever having a problem with profiles. I have mine and a friends activated to my psn and it works fine. I also think if your ps3 breaks you can deactivate everything online. So I guess that has to be what he is getting at. And I agree the activation thing should be automatic.

Now the shitty 6 frames per second store, and the inconsistent download speeds for some people, and the load times on the UI when you are playing a game and want to look at trophies... that is all "real real bad."

Yeah, if the profile setup is the worst thing the PS3 has got going then good job Sony. I've got a laundry list of things I consider "real real bad" with my 360.

About the downloads, I know people in Japan (watched them stream stuff off of a PS3) and goddamn those download speeds are fast.

I'm curious, apart from the prevalent complaint about the ads what are your problems with it?

Aw shit @vinny

I hope you check trivial stuff like temperature before you whip out the wallet next time !

Although 570 to 770 is a decent upgrade nonetheless.

Regarding temperature and performance.

Getting your cpu even cooler wont give you additional performance.
It is only when it hitts 100 c, that it starts to throttle down, to keep it from melting.

Pretty much any temperature under that, and you'll be running at full throttle.
when it comes to modern intel cpu's, you want to stay under 80c to keep the lifespan decent.

Even though as you noticed yourself, they can take a beating and still function.

so let me get this straight, they dont talk about dota at all during this bombcast, yet people post comments like this?

If that is the case, i think these fools should enjoy a one year site ban, cause that is just stupid.

I don't understand this talk about easy is.

I get it from the first guy who played it but when everyone else started they had heard about it being easy.. So why not play it on hard? I heard it was easy so i put it on hard and i've died quite a few times..

Nobody's upset about it being easy though. That game is a power fantasy, and you are permitted to steam roll and be a beast. Dying more wouldn't make that game more fun to me, and I can't imagine it would do that for very many other people either.

If any of you had played SR2, I have a feeling your opinion of The Third would have been a bit different...

Also The Rift side activity was my favourite activity because it wasn't 7 years old!

IV's story is like a love letter to long time Saints Row fans and I appreciated it...perhaps I'm the only one here who does though, and that makes me miserable.

It's you and me brother... just you and me.

Though the brief nod from Brad that he recognizes his own curmudgeonly nature lately was appreciated, it doesn't really change the fact that he's kind of been an irritable old curmudgeon for awhile now. The outright hostility to the console launch games, the hoity toity PC Master Race-ism, the kicking and screaming he did a week or two ago about having to play GTA 5 on consoles, the dismissal of most major releases with the now-infamous Brothers debacle, the wet blanket attitude whenever there's new console news; while it's nice to recognize you're acting kind of snobby, you're still acting kind of snobby a lot.

I'm kind of dreading this year's GOTY podcasts, because I can't even imagine what they're going to be debating between, since at this rate, they'll barely be on the same page on any game at all with the likely exceptions of Bioshock, Saints Row, and GTA.

Oh, and despite the zombie-meme of "Sony's doing it too! Don't believe their lies!" that crops up in any comparison of console features and policies, Shu Yoshida has said on twitter multiple times and several different media outlets have reported that broadcasting functionality will not be put behind a paywall, and Twitch has said their streaming service for the Ps4 is free, unlike with the Xbox One. It takes 3 seconds to google this information.

And for the record, Giant Bomb commentariat: There's no Dota talk in this podcast. At least listen to the fucking thing before you complain.

Sony is putting their multiplayer behind a paywall. Of the people interested in streaming their games, what % do you think aren't going to want online multiplayer? People who whined about Microsoft putting things behind their paywall may have had a point this generation, but it hardly matters anymore. Now that stuff is just ammunition for the console wars, instead of a key difference between the two consoles.

Das Boot is up in full on YouTube (it's an epic war movie, three hours long) and it paints a brilliant picture of life on a submarine. It's set from the German point of view in WW2. The Germans lost 3 out of ever 4 submariners they sent into the field during the war.

Yeah, aside from the usual complaints (XBL Gold paywall for Netflix/YouTube, bootup time, indie dev gripes), one that bugs me, and maybe only me, is not being able to put AVI files on my 360. It'd be nice if I didn't have to swap in a DVD or boot up a media sever to watch something I put on frequently like workout videos.

Also, that theme song is fucking fantastic (and for those who grew up in the early 90's, at least in Europe, a techno remix of that song, done by U-96 became a major hit, played everywhere for a couple of years, around 1991-94 or so).

Some of their complaints about SR4 on consoles are valid (framerate does get terrible when moving fast and with lots of explosions) but i dont know wth they are talking about with regards to not being able to land on the clusters on reliably. Im playing on PS3, and i have to say, more often than not, that when im landing out of a glide, i land exactly where i wanted to. Even when getting the clusters on top of smokestacks and other small landing areas. Maybe Brad's just terrible with a controller after too much time playing DOTA?

Agree. I think some of it has to do with lots of press being "360 first" people, since it came out first and the PS3 was in rough waters its first few years. A lot of these complaints just come from people not actually USING the PS3 except for the exclusives every few months. When listening to podcasts and hearing "AHHH the XMB is terrible!!" im just like "what? have you used it for more than 5 minutes?" Games are in the game column. Streaming stuff is in the services column, etc. its really not that bad, and is a lot better than the ad riddled 360 dashboard.

No, I think he is referring to the PS3 not having very basic functionality the original Xbox already even had. Things like being able to sign into your profile on another console while on that same console someone else is also logged into his or her profile and then play co-op with your own stats, unlocks etc.

I don't know if it's been fixed, but I remember playing Borderlands 2 with a friend of mine and only one of us was able to log onto our profile at a time when we played local co-op.

It's stuff like that he was referring to I think.

I was being facetious. I just think its odd how much they decided to change the look of the character. for it obviously being a sequel.

Probably, but he should know that's not on Sony's, it's on the developers. Even though you cannot log individual profile to each controllers like on Xbox, games like Little Big Planet let you load any profile present on the PS3 with each player. Personally I think he's talking more about not being able to switch profile ingame, because switching in the XMB is better on PS3 since you don't have to log out and signing multiple profile ingame on Xbox can be a mess especially when you start to turn off controllers before logging out profiles, and almost most games don't handle profiles from the game and that "Xbox menu" is slow as hell when a game is running.

@phished0ne: Guys, guys... Let me straighten things out. It's similar to the Bioshock universe. There is always a Sam Fisher, an Echelon, and a daughter.

Blacklist is not at all a reboot, it just has a new voice actor.

You are right, its not at all a reboot, it just has a new voice actor....and the character model mysteriously looks younger and less grizzled. /shrug

Have you played it? It has direct ties to Conviction. It is a sequel.

I was being facetious. I just think its odd how much they decided to change the look of the character. for it obviously being a sequel.

So let me get this right, you can't do a re imagining and also follow convictions story? Granted I haven't played the game.

I'm a few months behind on the bombcast but Jeff pretty much nailed MS opening the checkbook to lock up Titanfall
