Man I am in a total fighting game predicament at the moment. I've played a ton of (and love) Street Fighter and enough Tekken, SoulCal and DBFZ to know those aren't for me and now I'm torn between this and the switch releases of Under Night and Samurai Shodown.

I like that all three of these fighting games are a 1v1 fighters with more emphasis on neutral/footsies than say, DBFZ. I'm also likelier to play a bunch of portable switch at the moment than PS4, so SamSho and Under Night are very attractive... but damn Granblue looks gorgeous and seems like the closest thing I'll ever get to a 2D Final Fantasy game in terms of look and feel.

So still debating between the three... not to be "that guy" but I hope GBFV comes to Switch. Considering how well DBFZ made the transition I'm hopeful.

edit: Ben, you're thinking of composer Nobuo Uematsu ;)

Looking forward to getting this. You guys should diversify your character choices a little more when doing fighter QLs.

Been stoked for this game since the beta! With this coming out less than a week after the DBFZ Season 3 patch, ArcSys about to keep me real busy for a while.

Okay so a fun fact about those sales numbers. Theres a ton of materials you get from just buying Versus you can use in the actual browser game that are extremely expensive to buy on their own with real money or extremely rare to get because they rarely give them out or have hard caps on earning them in the game. The numbers for Versus are bound to be inflated because alot of people who DO play the browser game tend to just buy a product whenever they attach those items to a product. Heck the week that Cygame's "popular" horse girl anime Umamusume came out on BD, they attached a whole bunch of those material items to the BD and it outsold every actual popular anime for that week of sales.

I'm not trying to say that the game is bad or anything, or that its secretly failing. I'm just saying that people will definitely buy a 60-70 dollar game they don't normally play if it has Damascus Bars or Sunlight stones attached to it because on their own they are priced between 30-40 dollars to obtain on the regular. 25 million players!

I usually dislike cell-shaded anime looks, but this is well done really nice artwork and visuals.

You can do full co-op in the RPG mode, both local and online. The setting to change the control of the 2nd player is one menu deeper before starting the quest, where you pick your weapon grid and skills and such. By default it's CPU controlled.

I'm torn between this and the switch releases of Under Night and Samurai Shodown.

GBFV is definitely the most street fighter-like anime game I've played. It's like SF with simple combos and a dodge/roll that opens options up a bit more. Under Night is all about massive normals and loooong pressure strings, the people who say it's a neutral-heavy SF-like game are stone cold liars. A much higher barrier to entry, It's still fun and has good tutorial content. SamSho could also be what you're looking for, It's got super-high single hit damage, twitchy reactions, bit slower more methodical movement. All 3 games have bad netcode. GBFV has a lot of single-player stuff, I think UNIST has kind of a VN-like story mode? And Samsho is pretty barebones arcade mode.

That's how few characters for a full priced game?!

Holly F! This is mobile game mentality at play, for dang sure!

I guess Tekken 7 settled the debate over the best fighting game years ago. And you can't even ask Harada for $h!t!

@xkkzz: hey I appreciate you taking the time to respond to this!

You've made some great points. I love the art style and soundtrack to Under Night but the way you've described it has me a bit weary that it might not exactly be what I'm looking for.

I'm leaning more towards SamSho and GBFV, and might end up getting both down the line.

funny with thing with those sale numbers are those rewards you get for the mobile game are insanely important and hard to get so not just whales of the mobile game will be picking it up just for that, hell i hardly ever play fighters but just because i'm a fan of GBF and want those items will be picking this up at some point

I would have been excited if this came out on he Switch. Hopefully Samurai Shodown is as inviting to new fighting game players like this game. Been looking forward to a simplified fighting engine as a person who don't enjoy fighting games in general because of its complexity.

Hence I am not toughing Undernight at all.

Gah, having to wait for this release is silly. I don't want to be locked into HK DLC (because the game has a toooooon of it planned), so buying it now is not something I want to do. Hopefully, I have as good a time with this as I did BBCTB.

I got kind of sick when they showed all of the gatcha mechanics. Plus on top of that, a season pass? I'm sure they are going to sell materials too, if not at launch, down the road. I was really looking forward to just the fighting game, but all of that stuff really puts me off. I hope this is not a continuing trend in fighting games going forward.

I play the mobile game of this quite frequently and i adore what they have done with the fighting game, it's really cool how they've kept the overall aesthetic of the menus and mechanics and implemented them into a really cool fighting game with an RPG mode to boot! As much as i was a bit iffy about the gacha mechanics being put in, from what i saw with this video it's all earned tickets to actually do 10 draws for items which i'm pretty okay with. I can't wait for the game to come out in the UK (apparently it releases on the 27th March on Amazon), because this video has made me want it even more now. C:

Most fighting games have season passes now. Its basically the norm now. The only one I can think of that doesn't do season passes Unist at this point.
