Jeff, not sure if you read these comments. And I am sure you have people in the office that can give you sound advice on a video card. This is just my first hand experience with the gtx 690 since it's release.

As you know the 690 is a multi gpu card, I previously owned a AMD hd6990 card. And it suffered from the phenomenon, known as 'microstutter'.

Some people notice it, some people don't. Usually the longer you spend with a pc, the more you notice it. However some people can tell strait away. The 690 has, way, way, less microstutter than AMD's current products. The 690 actually has 'hardware frame metering', gtx 670/680's do the same thing through drivers. What it does is even out the frame distribution, this means games with janky microstutter tenancies - like skyrim, suddenly become quite smooth, smoother than a single card in many cases.

The 690 also keeps itself extremely cool, and it's built like a tank. It has better yielded chips, which means you will get years of use out of it.

Get the gtx 690, It's the best videocard I have ever owned. Bar none. And I have had a wide variety of videocards over the years. I also highly recommend a IPS 2560x1440 screen to go with that, it looks nearly twice as good as 1920x1080, and makes far better use of the gtx 690's power. Pc gaming will take on an entirely different meaning.

And borderlands 2 will look and play super rad.

I really hope to see Sara and Tony make an appearance on the Big Live Live Show. I wouldn't be surprised if Rorie, Will, Norm and possibly Alex, if he can make the trip, showed up.

@Brad: Coincidentally I found myself in the same dilema regarding what TV to get. I finally decided on a Panasonic Plasma TC-P55GT50 and so far I'm loving it. There is a ton of advice out there, almost too much. How you end up setting it up seems to be a very personal thing as a lot of the recommendations seem to be settings for watching movies, where I mostly use it to play games on a PS3 and 360. I got the Disney WOW calibration disk to help me setup something that seems right for me. I have not observed any issues with image retention to date, but it has only been a week. So far I'm loving it!

If you get a new GPU you might run into the same problems. If there is an airflow issue in your case you wont see much difference. Unless your GPU fan isn't working properly, or packed full of dust.

@Brad: I played Dragon Age: Origins constantly in long. extended periods on my (at the time) month old '09 Panny and only had minor image retention that went away fairly fast. Just switch on the pixel orbiter and forget about it.

I knew you liked it, but I didn't know you liked it like /that/. It's one of my favorite games ever, yet even I can't use that bright orange/yellow wallpaper.

I haven't looked for a wallpaper since the launch though, so maybe there's something rad floating around now. Hopefully from the very last level.
