I have a big plasma and burn in isn't so much an issue anymore. It's a cheaper plasma, so there is temporary burn in, but you play other stuff on it and it goes away quick. It's never hindered me. I've paused Netflix for like an hour and it burned in, but you play something on the screen for 5 minute and it's gone. Just like when I watch ESPN or NFL Network. Not a problem anymore. Feel free to go Plasma. They are awesome. But heavy. And you can't put them flat on their back or front, it ruins it. Always upright.

Don't buy a Vita Brad! Remember how useless the PSP was? The Vita continues that trend.

the minor increase a 660 would net isn't really worth multiple hundreds of dollars, in my opinion.

a 670 has a bit more gain on the 570, but i still don't know, i don't think any cards from this generation are actually justifiable getting if you already have a good card from the prior gen.

if his card is shot, he of course wont have the liberty of not buying a new card, but I'd guess he only needs to dust it off. it could even be a windows 8 related issue.

Jeff is totally outdated on plasmas. I got my Panasonic 46 inch 1080p plasma hdtv 2 years ago and its amazing. Its picture quality blows LCDs out of the water. You have a break in period when you first buy it and then you never have to think about image retention.

Wound up buying DJ Hero 1 and 2 myself. Things are so cheap. Got the DJ Hero 2 Party Bundle and DJ Hero 1 for 36 bucks. Two tables and two games for 36 bucks. Love it. Now wish the damn Bundle would ship already.

That doesn't sound like the regular image retention that I see on Plasmas, more like a charge built up within the panel. (which isn’t that common on Panasonic sets in my experience)

Wear on Plasma displays accumulates over time, so turning the display off should have no significant impact on the visibility of image retention—you need to spend a while watching other content without a visible HUD, crosshairs etc. to get rid of it.

If you are frequently changing sources, don’t watch letterboxed films too often, and don’t play games for much longer than an hour at a time in between programs/films etc, you’re right that image retention is probably not a serious issue.

If you play the same game when you get home from work for a couple of hours a night, turn the TV off after, and don’t watch anything else in-between it to clear the retention, it can quickly build up to a level that can take days, weeks, or even months of watching other content to clear, because a week of that (say two hours a night for five days) would be roughly equivalent to simply playing the game for ten hours straight because unlike LCDs, wear on Plasmas does not “reset” when you turn them off.

For what it’s worth, you can lay them flat without any damage—e.g. to fit brackets for wall mounting. The issue is if you try to transport them flat, the screen will flex, which can cause it to crack. This is also an issue with LCDs, and regular old windows too—you will find that panes of glass are always transported upright.

I've noticed from these video's that the staff member who's fashion sense most resembles mine is Sara.

How long has Jeff lived in the Bay Area?  How can he not use Bart?!  I don't even live in the bay area and I've used the Bart easily half a dozen times.  I even have the Bart app on my iPhone in case I randomly go to San Francisco.

When I first bought my plasma 2 years ago and was still in the break in period (150-300 hours of normal tv watching) I made the mistake of cracking open Mass Effect and playing it for a good long while for several days. Before I knew it I had logged in 40 hours of gameplay and the circular map was in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. I checked it against some DVDs and it was visible to me because I knew it was there.

I didn't play the game for a week and logged in the same amount of DVD watching to counter the image retention. 40 hours was enough to completely clear it even on the idle black screen (when image retention is most visible).

Since then I've played games with no TV buffer and have had no issue. I played Dark Souls for 100 hours with nothing else buffering its hud and the image retention was only visible on the black idle screen. It was gone once I started to play Skyrim.

The idea that image retention can last for weeks or even months with a few hours of gaming a night over the span of 10s of hours isn't true. At least it isn't true for my TV.

You don't need to redeem Sony Rewards points through the Sony site with its ripoff MSRP pricing. There's a list of authorized retailers you can buy from and then send a Purchase Credit Form to get points credited back. Sony decided that was too good a deal about a year ago and bumped it up from 100 to 115 points for $1.00. It's still a better deal if you find a good sale on a Sony product.

He's not asking for less or shorter content, but I don't see why "shootin' the shit around the office" and "I Love Mondays" can't be separate features.

It'd be nice to have a concrete answer on what they are doing for the week instead of causally going "maybe we can do this?" and leave the viewers wondering if there's going to be a Way of the Samurai 4 quick look.

The only plasma screen to buy (if you can still get one) is a Pioneer Kuro.

@RotBot: Awh man. The Sony Mastercard points program used to be awesome when Citibank was in charge of it here in Canada, then MBNA fucked everything up and doesn't give a damn about customer service. Now they've been bought by TD so I don't know where they stand but don't care anymore. My days of points rewards and affinity programs are done. Just lower the damn price. :p
