I think I'm in the same boat with you re: the AEW game. More cautiously optimistic, I'd say. I have no idea if you'd even be able to convincingly pull off a No Mercy-style game with the fidelity of today's wrestling games – No Mercy seemed like something that was a time-and-place thing.

But if Yuke's wants to have a stab at it and (seemingly) break free of their miserable simulation shackles, I say why not.

My mom died a little over a year ago and I have one voicemail from her that she left when she was in the hospital and... if it didn't wreck me everytime I listened I would listen to it hourly... I wish I had more though, just knowing its there means so much to me. On a lighter note..I think parents worried about embarrassing their kids with pics or stories about them as kids.. is a little overblown, from what I understand its a parents job TO embarrass the hell out of them every chance they can get and when a kid is old enough to stumble across those stories or pictures on the internet, they will hopefully be mature enough to understand that all kids do dumb or unintentionally hilarious things when they are growing up, its kind of a right of passage... so they shouldn't feel negatively about it.

@impati3nt: Yeah, I think this is the important thing: Yukes had immediately said after being released from the WWE stuff that they were excited to move on and make a different wrestling game and were immediately working on the bones of a non WWE wrestling game. I think the idea of potentially shackling them with the idea of saying "okay make this a no mercy style game" simply because its what the niche fans are clamoring for is a massive misstep. Now its tough to say how much of what Yukes was working on is gonna be in this game, but i cant imagine they were working on something in the vein of No Mercy.

I'm with you, im cautiously optimistic, but I would've been way more happy with a new version of the old arcade-style Smackdown games, instead of trying to chase this nostalgia bump from saying "ITS GONNA BE LIKE AN AKI GAME GUYS!!". I still think a game in the style of SD/SD 2/ JBI/ SYM would be way more refreshing. Because i feel like Fire pro being so readily available covers the super hardcore wrestling nerdy style game and i feel like the SD style games had more a fighting game feel that made it easier to pick up and play. I dont know if this makes sense but personally to me, the SD games were games you could play with non wrestling fans, but the AKI games were the games you would prefer to play with your wrestling buddies.

Oh wow, that Jai-Alai commercial takes me back. I moved to Florida in the mid-80s and defintiely remember Jai-Alai being advertised on TV. Not sure if I saw that specific commercial since I lived in south Florida and Ocala was 3 hours away, but who knows. The song sounded familiar!

In the state of Connecticut, we had a few fronton (fruhn·tawn) in Hartford and New Milford starting in the 1970s and they stayed until the late 90s. Hartford "World" jai-alai was operated from 1976 to 1980 until Whitey Bulger had the owner knocked off along with several others because one guy who worked there told Whitey they could run a skim on the concessions. But the owner said no way and he died. Then Berenson bought the jai-alai from the then owners wife and it was called Berenson's Hartford jai-alai til 1995-ish.

The whole of my jai-alai knowledge comes from seeing the Jackass episode where they had jai-alai players hurl oranges at Steve-O's taint.

Jai-Alai is also a pretty great IPA.

@phished0ne: Yep, I agree with you. Going for No Mercy specifically is a weird one for me. As Jeff says, not exactly what the brand of AEW should be harkening back to either. But let's see how it all shakes out.

Hey Jeff. Hang in there, not that you have a choice. Couple things about kid and sleep. My daughter just turned 30 months, aka 2.5.

We moved to a new house in November. Our old house was loft-like so we would hear any peep that she made. In the new house, which is much more standard, she’s in the room across the stairwell. She sleeps much better, I think because she can’t hear us snoring and shit, and if she makes a little noise but calms herself down, it doesn’t wake us up.

We went from her bedtime being 8pm and waking up at 5-5:30 every morning to bedtime at 8:30pm and having to actually wake her up at 7. Sometimes during the weekend she’ll sleep til 8. It’s been glorious.

So try to add a little distance if you can, in the sleeping arrangements. One humble recommendation.

I grew up in Tampa and I 100% remember seeing/hearing that exact ad.
