My name is Ellis, but some people call me El, but I don't really like being called El, because it sounds like a girl's name, so I prefer being called Ellis, but you can call me El if you want.

I really hated how the first game felt kind of flat. I didn't care about the characters and it just felt... meh. And "there are no cut-scenes, because you're *IMMERSED* in the world!" just doesn't cut it, because a few fucking scribbled lines on a wall at the beginning of every level does not a story make. "
Perhaps you should go back to 4-hour-long FPSs which spend more time getting you to look at movie-like scenes than actually playing them.

Great review!  And yes, let's move on to vampires.  Preferably lame teenage ones.

Right, because there are only the extreme ends of the spectrum to choose from. "

Looking at the games on the market... that's actually 100% true.

It is ok Brad you don't need to defend yourself. We all know you are secretly a die-hard PC fan, and that you just play those other systems to keep up appearances when around your friends and co-workers. One day you will feel safe enough to come out to the world about your love for the PC, and on that day angels will sing, trumpets will flair and a beam of holy light shale beam down on you as it does to all of the devote to the chosen system of video games. Praise be upon you brother.

i haven't played 3 and 4... but i recall MGS 1 and 2 were bboth cutscene longer than gameplay...  i felt like for every 5 minutes i play i watch almost 10 to 15 mintues of video/codec conversation...  i proabbaly know it so well that i can beat it in 4 to 5 hours... (i could be wrong tho...)

4/5, 3/5, 5/5... Giantbomb's review scores don't make any sense.. they always seem to be just.. however the person is feeling at the moment, which never really holds up to other reviews they've given.. At least their full reviews make sense.

Hmmm... Brad's intro sentence got me thinking, zombies have been exploited completely in the past couple years. Perhaps it's time for vampires. I'd enjoy a vampire twist in L4D3.

QFT. The four characters in Left 4 Dead we're well realized and unique, whereas these characters feel dry and cliche.

People liked the original survivors because they were easy to relate to--there's a soldier, a college girl, a businessman, and a biker. The new survivors are more unique and fleshed out. Just listen to the dialogue--the characters have much more depth in Left 4 Dead 2. However, they are more unique and that being so, they aren't as easy for many people to relate to. TV reporter, conman, football coach, and redneck mechanic vs. L4D1 cast--can you really say that L4D1's characters are more unique?

I think anyone that's approaching this game like you would single player games like Bioshock or Half Life or something along those lines, you're going to be disappointed because this isn't that type of game. This game is more along the lines of Valve games like Team Fortress and Counter Strike. If you aren't playing online, you're wasting your time. This is something particularly evident on the pc where the mod community has enhanced the game with user created maps and scenarios as they tend to do with multiplayer shooters. Again, if you want a single player oriented experience, look else ware.

This one time, me and my buddy Keith we're on Giant Bomb and we saw that there's was a video review for this Left 4 Dead 2 thing that's a sequel to a game released last year by a company who takes 5 years to make games, and we laughed at how committed Brad was to shooting his teammate at 4:27.

From just playing the demo, the game does feel like it has a lot of refinements added to it but that doesn't really make me want to pick up it up full price, maybe next year at some point when there is a sale. With that said, I enjoyed the original but i've barely played it since I bought it when it was on sale in the Spring this year.

Not unique, but certainly more stereotipes, in a good way. If something can be said about the L4D series (specially the first) is that they embrace all the zombie movies stereotipes and run along with them...

Very nice review, Brad. I got my hands on the demo as I'm sure many did, but it failed to grab my attention in any way. With a limited budget and other more diverse looking games out there, I'm just fine sticking with the original Left 4 Dead.
