I'm so glad Vinny killed that NPC after beating Manus: The Hands of Fate. The story in that DLC seems dumb anyways and worth breaking in every possible way. No one tells V-bomb what to do. All I know is that Vinny's going to have a much easier time against Gwyn than I did. Thanks for this great video series!

Vinny knows he can upgrade his armour, right? Levels make sense early because they give resistances, but he's using so much on each level now that those souls would provide more defence from upgrades. Fully upgraded armour has like double its original stats.

That DLC looked like bullshit.

@rorie: This is a late reply but, since you've been trying to figure out the source of inspiration that Dark Souls uses. From Software's director Hidetaka Miyazaki admitted in an interview that he is a fan of the manga Berserk (1991-ongoing) and used it as his source of inspiration for Dark Souls. However, it was also the inspiration for Demon's souls. I'm just gonna post two images from Berserk to hopefully show more of the similarities.

Also, since I remember you mentioning that you were playing Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen I feel I should point out that it also used Berserk as its source of inspiration as well. Multiple side-quests and even the main quest drew parallels to the story and character stories in Berserk. You can even use the character creator to recreate two of the main characters.

If you like Dark Fantasy (and I mean really dark) then you should try and give Berserk a chance. I won't say too much about Berserk because I know you hate spoilers. The snake guy above is from the first volume and I'm hoping that doesn't count as being a major spoiler.

Berserk is amazing. I've only seen the anime series myself but I loved it. My buddy gave me an overview of what happens afterwards and I'd like to read the rest some day.

@csl316: You should but, I would definitely advise to start at the beginning of the manga. The anime while great skipped a lot of very important character back-stories and cut out very important characters altogether (like the Skull Knight).

Those ghost things are simultaneously incredibly fucking stupid and super creepy. Either way I don't like them.

I can't believe he stomped Manus like that. He's no joke. Artorias gave him the hardest fight it seems.

Kind of makes the main event of Gwyn anticlimatic seeing as how effortlessly he's swatted everything aside. Also I'm guessing Ian was referring to the painted world and all that jazz? Maybe it's possible we can get two more videos out of this. Gonna be sad when it's done though, unless he does Demon Souls next.

SHE WAS MANUS, MAN!

YEAH. Just beat the dlc for the first time yesterday and I really enjoyed it. The bosses were hard but fun to fight. Then after finally beating Manus I headed back to the sanctuary and proceded to get stomped into the ground for an hour by the guardians. Then I quit. The only instance I can recall were Dark Souls has actually felt really unfair to me.

On a side note, when will more videos be posted? I'm a new subscriber and they haven't put many new videos up since I joined. I'd love to see more of this and Volgarr.

Very low equip load and rolling is the 'mistake' a lot of people make. It's obviously great for PvP, and it's great overall if you can use that stuff. But if you put on high armor all you need to do is block and attack throughout most of the game.

I suspect people who claim Dark Souls is extremely hard just haven't tried wearing high armor yet.

I watched a chess documentary a little while back, and it seems like a few people totally still play that game by mail. Seems crazy in this modern age, but there we go. They even had one guy who said he realised his mail-chess opponent was cheating by having a computer calculate his moves for him.

@gtcknight: That's... awesome. I've read a lot Berserk and somewhere in the back of my head, I knew Dark Souls felt familiar. It's super-obvious but I didn't see it until now. Thanks for the heads-up.

Some one needs to do a parody video where he does this. I mean it was almost like they planned that seriously it was hilarious. Very well done.

I always summoned when I could. I was just more fun.

And fighting with a Sif summon was very memorable.

I'd love to see Vinny replay Dark Souls with the remastered version. A GBE weekly playdate would be glorious.
