Mass Alex: Mass Effect 3 - Part 01

This is my favorite shop on the Citadel! So glad this series is back!

Not sure if someone else has mentioned it but didn't they chose Anderson to be on the council at the end of the first game? Is Udina on the council a story thing or did some wires get crossed somewhere? Love the series!!!

Alex with the MST3K Space Mutiny reference! Love it. I've named a ton of characters using that particular setup. Brock Meatfist is my go to.

This is my first time revisiting Mass Effect 3 since I played it back in 2012 (besides looking up some cut scenes on YouTube). I am much excite.

@mattftw: it’s been a while, but I think they made it canon that Udina is Anderson’s assistant. So when Anderson sticks around on Earth, I guess Udina is acting in his role.

@alex@vinny Hey guys, weight capacity dictates kinds of guns you can carry into a mission with Shep Shep, while balancing how quickly your powers recharge.

Every gun has a different "weight" stat on them, so the heavier and the more guns you carry, the sooner you reach your weight capacity threshold. It's worth noting that you'll never be restricted from carrying as many guns if you want, even if you go way over your weight capacity, however there is a caveat.

The more you go in the red of your weight capacity, the more it will slow your powers recharge speed, significantly.

The more you stay in in the green of your weight capacity, the bigger the powers recharge speed bonus you'll get (again, quite significantly).

TLDR - stay nice and light and you can use your powers more often, but might be short on weapon variety and might need to look for ammo more often. Go heavy with guns, and you'll never be short on ammo, but powers usage will be more limited.

Extra side note - vanguard is a bad class with incredibly low survivability. A sentinel or even adept are far stronger classes that are way more capable with biotic/tech combo powers. Jussayin'. Sorry folks.

Oooh, this game is pretty bad. A lot of filler. I guess a couple good things here and here. Looking forward to watching you play this though.

I'm actually glad Alex didn't pick Vanguard this time around. It's a whole lot of fun, but especially in 2. In 3... ehhhh some of the combat scenarios can get a little funky with you teleporting from one end of the map to the other every few seconds? It's still a blast but it's not the True Vanguard Experience (tm).

I dunno, personally I couldn't imagine Alex with a bun.

The beginning is just about the only thing I remember from this, plus the Leviathan and Citadel from when the crew checked those out. Excited to see it all.

Man, I wish they decided to let Tali stay dead. I've played this trilogy already and wanted to see how the game plays without that character. I also completely disagree that their death was BS: a choice was made and it had undesirable results. But no point arguing about it now, whatever is most fun for Alex, of course. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, anyway. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

This series is right up there with Deadly Premonition and Persona. I am so excited.

On the thread of which class to pick, I agree that Sentinel is a strong pick. I like Infiltrator and Vanguard now and then, but they play very differently, I don't know that I'd like to play the full game like that now. I liked them a lot in shorter bursts (the multiplayer).

Speaking of, maaan, I haven't checked on ME3 multiplayer in a while. I'm tempted to download on PC to see how it's doing, but all my progress is on 360

@mattftw: It is one of those choices that plays out no matter what you do. Whether you choose Anderson or Udina in Mass Effect 1, Udina is the council representative in Mass Effect 3 (in order to make something that happens in Mass Effect 3 work).

I don't get why they didn't just replay the last mission and keep tali alive, would've taken them about 30 minutes to do. Something about using a save editor is so gross.

I can't wait until you get to Eden Prime. Make sure you poke around the ship quickly for all your upgrades, gun mods, armor/outfit settings, etc. This is the game where the action part of the combat got fully ironed out. You probably want to include the rifle instead of two handguns, the way the loadouts work out in the field seemed to pass you by at the time.

I love Tali so much, I'm so happy! Also... this is the best Mass Effect game.

I'm fine with bringing Tali back but let's not say it was the game being bullshit. You put someone who has been working alone for decades in charge of a team. That's stupidity on the players part.

I recommend saving the citadel DLC for late in the game so you can invite as many people over as possible. Like after Miranda's mission.

Hell yes! I love Mass Effect 3, fuck the haters (though I played it after all the DLC and patches were out) and I love Mass Alex!

Would love for them to keep doing these live especially silly since they get a lot of helpful info from the chat on thing they don’t remember. I’m willing to sacrifice all Wednesday playdates as dedicated Live Alexy Quest days!

Does that Galactic Readiness phone app still work? I remember it being pretty hard (impossible?) to max out Readiness if you don't use it.

@garwalk: Nah that's just ME3. When the game first came out it didn't import faces at all.

ME3 is the weakest of the trilogy but still a pretty damn good game, terrible ending notwithstanding.

And yeah bringing Tali back was the right decision, considering how small your squad already is in 3, making that issue even worse would be a bad idea imo. If Tali was a non-squad character though I would have been on team keep her dead.

Look at all that DLC armor that Alex will never put on, seriously I hope you change your armor and don't wear the same set the whole game like you did in 2. Weight is important in 3 and with a sentinel they have a lot of ability's so your going to want to carry 2 weapons max, I carried one but that's only cause they make you have one otherwise I wouldn't take any. I recommend using offensive powers on the quick fire buttons and defensive powers like your shield to be activated in the menu.

I haven’t been this disappointed with y’all ret-conning tali’s death since.......cancelling the Dan and Abby America games because of user comments.

@alex Welcome back Commander! If it's included in all the DLC you have, check out the N7 Valkyrie assault rifle. I ended up ditching all other weapons and using just that and space magic powers exclusively. It's by far the most fun gun to shoot in the entire game imo!

Damn. Now I have to get back to Mass Effect 3 so I'm ahead of Alex for these episodes.

• Why is he still not using the combat to it's full ability? (no grenades, no combinations, same solution for every encounter.)
• Why is he still using just pistols? Can't he use assault weapons now?
• Why do they suddenly pretend to hate Kaiden?
• Why bring Tali back with a save editor? That seemed like a cool unique thing to your playthrough. Now it's the same as everyone else.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing this. But I'm reminded about how frustrating it us to see Alex play these.

2 of my first experiences with this game were having to recreate my character (visually) because the face importing was busted at launch, and losing all of my unlocks in the multiplayer TWICE (which I'm still slightly bitter about whenever people talk about how good it was). Not exactly good first impressions, so I'm looking forward to watching a more stable version of it.
