Mass Alex: Mass Effect 3 - Part 24

This DLC is soooo much longer than I remember. I feel like I went through the whole thing in about 2 hours.

It's starting to feel like shep shep cares more about parties than the galaxy

Also, the game's interpretation of "friendship" between Jack and Miranda is hilarious.

I guess in the end ME3 wasn’t about defeating the reapers but about the friends we made along the way..

I enjoy all the little nods this DLC makes. Pre-ME2, there were character reveal trailers on youtube. Jack got one that was very over-the-top and edgelordy, in which she asks the camera, "Now who's the badass biotic, bitch?" It got mocked a lot, as I recall.

So of course they bring the line back in a wholesome context when Jack is playing with her dog. XD

Also, I'm not sure what combination of 'quiet' and 'loud' I picked, but my version of this party went *off the rails*. The part I remember best is Garrus and Zaeed getting drunk enough that they were convinced they were going to get ambushed, and started building booby traps in the apartment.

They should take one more pass through the normal citadel areas to make sure you talked with everyone! I think Cortez still has an open story thread.

Also, I'm pretty sure the voice actress for Ms. Shepard is the same for Bangalore from Apex Legends.

I salute you Citadel DLC and the ME3 crew that made it, excellent DLC.

James was the MVP of this DLC. The dancing, the eggs, his bits were ridiculous. Also maybe the first time I've enjoyed Kaidan - they made his neurosis sympathetic and amusing, his dance next to James was so good.

Citadel DLC is the perfect example of a quality Christmas special. I adore it.

Oh man, I feel bad for missing out on this DLC. Forget what I was doing that I just never had the time to go back to ME3.

I really forgot how long it takes to make it to the party. I've always remembered this DLC as just the party.

I'm sad alex didn't get to see that if you encourage joker to do target practice that they turn the bar into a shooting range.

Hot Take: This is the one scene where Mark Meer did a better read than Jennifer Hale. Hale's Shep sounds confused too early into the joke.

There's a few scenes in Citadel DLC where Mark Meer's more deadpan performance actually works out pretty well in his favour. My favorite is his interaction with Kaiden where he really comes off as just trolling the absolute shit out of his Canadian buddy, his flat line delivery is pitch perfect.

It also helps that the bespoke animations they pulled out for this scene really give the banter a lot of character

I am sorry but did I miss an episode somewhere? I don't remember Shepard beating the reapers. All I remember is the three 'Old Ones'-reapers at the bottom of the sea. Was that the ending?

Poor Legion! No references to him throughout all this DLC? Mordin and Thane at least both got featured in some way.

I feel like it's always been an unfair comparison. Of course Jennifer Hale gave a better performance. She's Jennifer Hale! Guinness put up the argument that she's the best there is. Meanwhile Mark Meer is still a pretty obscure Canadian improv actor. I know that sounds like I'm just comparing notoriety but the experience gap is obvious.

Even though they've probably said it in...what, in the last three episodes that they're going to finish the game after this DLC, some people are still being confused? Good job.

This went maybe a little too zany at points, but overall it was a lot of fun!

Never played this DLC to the end so have never seen the party before. Turns out to be something I didn't know I needed right now. tyty commanders.

Here's the scene with Wrex at the casino bar that was mentioned in the episode but missed.

It's probably more the fault of the voice director, but occasionally Hale has really jarring delivery. For example in the bar scene I linked she gives a sort of plucky read of the "Still going through it" line which completely clashes with the sardonic, weary tone of the interaction. Or earlier in the DLC after capturing Brooks there was that "Maya, I know that voice" line which nonplussed Alex. It's intention was having Shepard call out Brooks for trying to slip back into her innocent persona but Hale read it like she was having a revelation, which made no sense.

Still, most of her performance is excellent, not least throughout this episode!

Never played this DLC. Can't believe how much of it there was.. the party was awesome! Exactly the right kind of wholesome silliness I needed right now in the year of our lord 2020. Thanks Alex and Vinny.

The party scene is really amazing and real testament to the dedication of everyone involved in making it. There are so many tiny variations on the whole thing, not just on what type of party in each phase, but who is there, who you've romanced, choices made here and there.

In the Mark Meer vs Jennifer Hale debate, I'm usually on the Hale side of things. She's a far more experienced actor and a personal favorite of mine long before Mass Effect.

But Meer absolutely kills it on the last line of the DLC (and honesty that whole scene in general). which is really the last line of the trilogy for a lot of people, especially if they played Citadel when it came out (or save it and head-cannon it as the end). His line reading of "The best" is so damn good; it's this quiet, it's wistful, and is a beautiful end cap for the whole thing. The thing I love about the Citadel DLC is it is an unabashed celebration of the trilogy and the characters and just throws everything in, and his line read just nails that feeling of happiness thinking back on everything but longing for it to go on just a little bit longer.

"Broke Omega's one rule... In more ways than one." Aria and Mordin fucked, why isn't everyone freaking out about this! And the game skipped over the bit where the group on the dance floor started reciting the elements and Tali called Garrus out for being a nerd, ah well.

Someone might have already pointed it out but Cortez has a lingering plot thread that needs resolving or else it has a less than desirable outcome. Swing by the Docks: Holding Area and chat with him, he should be standing by the memorial wall.

As for character interactions, two were missed but it might be possible to still do them. You can invite James and Cortez to the apartment to watch sports but even more importantly Wrex has an unmarked appearance at the bar that's good for a laugh.

While I do love the energetic party, I think the quiet version might actually surpass it for me (though I'm a completionist nerd and always do both parties via save reload). You get the beautiful "Shepard." scene with Wrex and Grunt, Garrus and Zaeed booby trapping the apartment, more drunk Tali, more drunk Javik and more moments of characters relaxing and reminiscing like a group of old friends, it's great. I'd recommend using an old save and completing that version of the party too after beating the game, even if you don't record it.

Overall, this is the best DLC in the series hands down. It knows exactly what it is and who it's for and I absolutely love it. And the final scene makes me tear up every time.
