That MGS4 trailer must have been super early. I recently replayed it and the in game models not only look different but are a lot higher res. That game pushed the PS3 to its limit. It may be the video itself but the frame rate is horrible in that trailer. Much worse than the game itself which has a framerate that is all over the place.

Everybody complaining about Dan's interpretation of MGS3 should go look up death of the author. His interpretation is perfectly valid, even if it wasn't what was intended. Different interpretations are part of what's interesting about fiction.

You can disagree with him (which I do, personally) but acting like he's wrong or like he didn't get it is just condescending and shitty.

What should happen next is that Dan should show Drew the cutscenes from Portable Ops as an extra episode, lot's of valuable lore in there that ties into MGS 4.

@hatking: It's a thing video game fans just don't seem to get, and it's a huge bummer. We get so few games where we can even have that type of conversation and people sprint to shut it down.

I blame education systems that involve teachers telling students what the themes of a work are, then punishing them with bad grades for diverging.

Does anyone know if they'll somehow cover the events of Metal Gear 1 and 2 after it's all said and done? I know it's probably not the most dynamic gameplay to show on screen, given its age, but the events are extremely important to the progression of the later games even if certain parts ended up being retconned.

I'm finally playing through MGS4, in anticipation of MGScanlon4. It's been 7 years since its release so most of it has been spoiled for me, or absorbed through osmosis, but even with all that knowledge it's still blowing my mind. I just got to Shadow Moses Island, and the fact that the Best is Yet To Come is great already, but having Snake reminisce via voice-over is fucking amazing. I didn't cry, but it definitely took my breath away. Funny thing is, I played MGS1 for the first time like 3 years ago. Still mindblowing.

You can love or hate MGS but one thing that is indisputable is that it is the only series (so far) that can do what it does, namely take itself so lightheartedly and so seriously at the same time. Playing the intro to MGS1 is cheesy but it's imbued with so much meaning because of all that history. I can't think of another franchise that has even attempted such narrative tricks. Kojima may have been saying "This is my last MGS game" for the past 4 games, but whether he hates his job or not, it cannot be denied he's a genius.

I wonder how Drew will experience all the crazy shit, considering he's been marathoning the series. I hope he feels a bit emotional.

Please don't take it the wrong way everyone, just an 'Um, actually' moment - Old Snake is salluting the grave of Gray Fox (a.k.a. Frank Jaeger), which conviniently enough is next to Boss. There is a moment when the camera pans from the grave of the Boss to the one Solid is salluting in MGS4.

Some of those "outtakes" from MGS3 were pretty amazing. Time Paradox!

@puika: Where do you get the idea that it's Grey Fox's grave? I'm pretty sure it's Big Boss's grave, no reason that Frank Jaeger would have a grave there...

@nukleon: At the end of MGS4 Old Snake approaches 2 graves - one with flowers already placed on it. I'm speculating that one of those graves is Frank Jaegers, might be wrong which is which. On second thought the flowers might be placed there by Naomi for Frank. Another likely speculation I have is the Big Boss has placed the flowers for The Boss before confronting Old Snake. What do you think?
