Excellent and much appreciated after a significant pause - at least that's how it feels to me. I'm very excited to hear that you've got further thoughts on how reviews may have to or will evolve. The fruits of that thought process are bound to be very interesting when we'll see them in the future. Can't wait for the follow-up video. I guess I'm going to have to put a little more thought into good questions since the this outstanding feature shouldn't suffer from my laziness.

man totally agree with Jeff on his take on game length. There are tons of games especially RPGs that have tens of hours of really dull filler.

Shorter games is not necessarily a bad thing within reason. I'll take quality over quantity any day.

I agree on the length thing too. I'm extremely grateful for short games. Sure, you might think it's not worth the money or whatever, but I just don't have time to play crap like Skyrim. In fact, I actually consider obscene playtimes a significant negative towards games now. I like games that last just long enough, tell their story well, and get the crap out my way so I can go live my life.

I like Jeff, I really do, but he really seems to get off on telling people who write in how wrong they are about a given topic. It's fine to show people where they may have been misinformed or what have you, but damn dude...you really need to take that sarcastic tone to make them sound foolish for their P.O.V? I rarely make it through an entire one of these videos solely because of this.

My main gripe with game length stems from the price. While I completely agree that length is not at all directly indicative of the quality of a game, it is still a major factor in determining whether or not I will pay $65 for a copy of it.

I have to agree here. One of the only games I bought at release last year was Dark Souls, because I knew it would give me over 40 hours of content with hardly any padding involved (not to mention enough variations to make replays worthwhile). There are very few games that give that kind of content.

The FPS genre is a weird beast though; even Half Life 2 feels like it drags on for too long in this modern era. I don't know if the amount of work they put into all those FPS set pieces and effects equals the amount of work that went into creating the 40+ hours of the Dark Souls world, but that's what it comes down to. Personally I avoid the FPS genre entirely unless it has a unique hook and an appropriate price because I just never feel satisfied by what they give me.

@sekou: the whole crew is very strongly opinionated, with Vinny being the most easy going I think - which is the biggest strength and weakness of the site. When on the Bombcast they discuss a topic and share my views it's like YAH HELL YAH but when they don't it's sometimes almost unbearable to keep listening.

I really love these. Jeff knows how to use them words and use them well.

I think this is the first time I've seen his bedroom during the day. The darkness and shadows always made it seem like it was bigger and there was some walking room off to the right.

Jeff, I agree that games should not outstay their welcome but what you're missing is that the cost of a game totally matters to most people. If a single player fps is 4 hours and is an awesome experience at that hour count then that's great but I'm not going to throw down 60 bones to play it. I'll rent it or buy it on sale but I can't justify the full price in that situation. That doesn't mean that all games should be the length of a skyrim, but the price should be adjusted accordingly. That also doesn't mean that games should have dollar to hour values because that's just silly. I guess the real problem is that there's no middle ground anymore. It's either an indie title or a blockbuster these days and I think that's sort of a shame. Also, keep in mind that when you're sent games for review, you lose a bit of the cost value of a game. Sure, you can tell me if it's worth my time but you can't tell me if it's worth my 60 bucks if you aren't really buying it yourself. And as you say Jeff, reviews are buyers guides.

I love the eye roll at "hiring manager", as someone who's artificially held that title I totally understand.

I'm getting tired of everyone asking about how to get into the game industry at every video game site. The answer is always the same. I understand you want to play games for a living, but if there would have beensome sort of secret recipe we would have known it by now. But I guess there will always be new people asking these questions who have not heard them being asked before. I must have heard the question in different podcasts and such dozens of times over the years and before that read them in video game magazines. How can I get to write for Nintendo Power or Playstation Magazine or whatever.

Same here. Sounds just fine. I guess it could sound clearer, but love the free form format of it all.

This is all me guessing, but the average person who has a job probably watches at least 25 movies a year. The money spent on that is probably less than $200 combining theater, rental, dvd, netflix etc (not including cable). If you can't find the time to play that next big game I don't know what to say. The problem I think people are having is they want to play the 30 20-hour games a year that they used to. If you have a family and job you just can't do that anymore.

And here's the problem: I'm under the impression that the cost of a game doesn't really matter to reviewers as much as it does to most gamers out there. Publishers send them most games for free or the magazine/site they work for pays for the games. And on top of that, many reviewers seem to prefer shorter games because it makes the review process easier and clears the schedule. A game like Skyrim more likely outstays it's welcome for reviewers because they pretty much (have to) play it nonstop at the time of release. I think there's a huge disconnect there due to the different circumstances in which reviewers and "ordinary gamers" play games.

Still my favourite subscriber segment.
