Quick Look: Badland: Game of the Year Edition

This game was rad on iPad. Not sure if Id ever want it on a console tho...

I've never even heard of this game before and it has a "Game of the Year" edition. Are there even any games anymore that are not Game of the Year?

I remember the short period of time when "Game of the Year" edition was something actual games that might have won that award used, as opposed to "the not rip off edition that has almost all the dlc we had planned day 0 but now release as a full package", but that time didn't last very long.

"game of the year" according to who, exactly? This looks like a really bad version of Loco Roco with worse gameplay and aesthetics inspired by Patapon. Oh, it started as an iOS game. Yuck.

Badland is a great great phone/tablet game, spent plenty of time going through it! GOTY edition though? Where did that come from?

Uh, this game is actually on Android as well. Not just ipads. I had this game over a year ago on my Samsung Galaxy and it was FREE. I don't know why ios would charge $8 or whatever or why anyone would pay $12 on consoles for this game. It was mildly fun for like a half an hour but it was just the same thing over and over and I deleted it not too long after. But again, it was free. It wasn't the game of the year edition however, but there were still lots of levels.

Tapping a phone screen doesn't always work so a phone game is typically lost on me if there is timing or precision involved. (Dry fingers I guess?)
Funny thing is that the 3DS touch screen (and according to the internet Nintendo uses cheapo touch screens) always works with my fingers.

I like the look and fluid animation, but the game itself seems sort of frustrating to me.

Looks like a phone-ass phone game.

I was expecting a George Cloney joke, but OK whatever.

It's a different type of touch screen from a typical smartphone (resistive vs. capacitive).

Resistive touch screens are cheaper and less accurate, and often do not support multi-touch (though it's technically possible). But they respond to pressure instead of capacitance so it doesn't matter what you're touching with.

I also never understood that complaint because for that size of screen, a game requiring ipad-level touch accuracy wouldn't really make sense anyway. The DS/3DS touchscreen works fine for games on that system.

This was my favorite iPad game for a long time, gameplay is nice, works great on a touch screen and has a really nice atmosphere.

At first I didn't get why Jeff wasn't understanding part of the game since he usually gets the mechanics really quick, but then I realized that this game has a lot of similar colors (green-yellow), I guess the game gets harder for colorblind people

This was fun enough on an iPad, but even there I got bored enough of it that I don't think I completed even half of the levels. It's too mechanically limited. I would not want to waste time playing it on a more capable device.

I was hoping that the game would tell some sort of passive, yet cohesive narrative via it's background art and grow to be more than a very simple puzzle game, but it doesn't.
