Wow, Drew comes to quick looks prepared with notes. He's the only one with an ounce of professionalism on the most unprofessional site on the internets.

Hmmmm so it looks just like Stronghold without the military or castle parts, or, oddly enough, Black & White 2 but you're a dictator, not a god.

So do these people have nothing to defend themselves with? You can't invent guns? Because this green village is just begging to be attacked by dinosaurs.

Quite the death toll in this quick look, approaching 80's action movie levels at one point but drew turned it around.

Something about the building reminds me of Black & White 2. Man, I loved B&W2. First one was neat too. It breaks my heart that there's probably a 0% chance of another one of those ever getting made.

I might have to pick this up, haven't gotten into a straight city-building game in a long time. I think the last one was Children of the Nile.

Yes! I immediately thought of Black and White as well. I loved those games.

What always has pushed me away from city builder games is either a military element putting too much pressure or the UI/systems being a hassle. Vinny nailed it when he said it seems like Drew is not fighting the controls and that to me is huge. I haven't really played much of this genre and I'm really really liking what I've seen so far.

The early 1990's D&D based RPG-RTS, or the early 00's castle building game?

The D&D game is really underappreciated. :(

That said, isn't this closer to the classic Settlers series than Stronghold?

Yeah the importance of all the complex production chains seems more like Settlers to me, too.

But this looks cool.

Hell yeah Reboot! Reboot was awesome!

This game looks fun, I might have to give it a try.

@cptbedlam: Wow that looks great! None of my towns ever end up nearly this good looking. I think my biggest problem is I habitually strip all trees from the town and surrounding areas. All the nice looking towns I see other people build seem to have lots of trees around.

This really doesn't seem to have that much in common with Stronghold. Looks more like a Settlers, Knights & Merchants or Anno. And it looks totally underwhelming as a fan of games like that or even The Guild and Caesar.

One man vs. the Maxis Studio. Lone developer creates a much more accurate simulation with individual citizen modeling and pathing. Maxis says its impossible, we need online servers to help process the load!!

Honestly I adore Indie games right now. These developers are just making what they want, and people are buying it up in droves cause they see the passion, the care, and the innovation put in. While giant studios like Maxis are stagnant, disconnected from their player base, and focus test everything to death.

This game is excellent. If you liked Pharaoh, Zeus, Settlers etc. back in the day, you'll probably like this as well.

Although the game is not so economically rich and complex, the people and jobs management is really where it's at, as you can tell from the quick look ^_^

Definitely recommend!

This game is really good, even though it's pretty simple compared to other games in the genre.

The villagers don't seem quite as boneheaded as other games that try to model the movements of each individual citizen (Tropico, Caesar 3) and it's satisfying to build up a town with hundreds of people. Even when you get a bigger, more stable town, it never feels like you have *quite* as many villagers as you really want, And I mean that in a good way.

To be fair something like this would be incredibly difficult to do on the scale of (old) SimCity.

Not that deep or hard of a sim. HOPE the guy patches lots of new stuff in. Love the idea of the game, but I'm not going to get more than maybe a few more hours out of it. Not worth $20 if it stays the way it is now. :(

I am really, incredibly, massively impressed by the look and animation of that water! .__.

'Herb' vs. 'erb' in north america tends to be a local pronunciation quirk that varies all over the place without rhyme or reason. Should you care to look into the history behind the two pronunciations and their origins, you will find it is an astonishingly deep rabbit hole. The short answer is that both pronunciations go back so far in the history, they are both equally correct at this point.

sincerely,

'erbiebug

@herbiebug: I have done no research on the subject of 'erb and herb but, I personally distinguish them by whether it's a plant('erb) or person(herb). Doesn't mean it's right but, that's just how I've always thought of them as.

Seems nice, slow paced. In a way, reminds me of Tropico.

There are no such things as 'erbs. They're Herbs. A silent H is just as crazy as Jif.
