So when I saw that Brad was going to be in charge of an hour and a half quick look of a complicated JRPG I was bracing myself for a meandering walk around the entire world containing about as much info on the game as could be contained in a five minute preview. Then he got stuck in a dungeon and was forced to actually play the game for an hour. Most informative Brad quick look since Ryan died and no one else was able to keep Brad on track.

Wow.

The balls are large with this one, and he may have said what he did in the manner of an asshole, but I believe his grievances are solid. Bradley can take a lot of time in a game just flipping through menus (which he seemed to try not to do here), or running around killing zombies for no reason instead of getting to a mission (Jeff can also keep Brad on track, and often has to). I don't believe anything bad was said about Ryan.

First off, my apologies. I didn't mean to make anyone quite that upset. If my comment was in some way misinterpreted, I meant that Ryan was really great at keeping Brad focused during quick looks as he has a very strong tendency to get off track without a strong co-pilot to gently push him forward. Ryan was always exceptional at balancing out the weaknesses of other staff members and I think I miss him most in quick looks Brad is running as Vinny is too nice to push Brad in any way and Jeff does his best but doesn't have the same deft touch that Ryan had.

EDIT: Also I realize those were some incredibly harsh comments about Brad's quick looks and they were said in a very blunt manner. I'm really terrible at sugar coating my criticism sometimes. So while I don't take back the point I was trying to make, I do apologize for the perceived tone which I believe came off worse than I intended. So sorry for offending everyone. I went a bit too far with my critique in this case and I apologize to Patrick and Brad if I hurt them personally. I meant that comment to be constructive not hurtful and it sadly didn't come off that way so I'm sorry.

I've been a massive fan of this team for over a decade and consider all of them among the best journalists in the business. Sorry for this poorly worded comment.

Apology accepted. Thanks, duder.

@north6: You are foolishly assuming Brad has spent the time to thoroughly explore menu options and tutorials before Quick Looking.

@orange_pork: Or we could just prefer stuff in its original format. I don't want to watch an American movie dubbed into Japanese (though we don't really do that here very much) anymore than I would want to play a Japanese game in English. I suppose actually knowing the language does help, but I just prefer consuming any media in as close to its original format as possible.

Edea and Ringabel's English voicework is way too good to switch over to Japanese. I take it that the people who actually want to play this in Japanese are the kinds of people who just generally want everything to sound like eeeeeeeehhkawaii desu neeee.

Ive played this game about 16 hours now and did the first half in English then the second in Japanese. I'm not someone that wants everything to sound 'kawaii', and I'm not a purist in that respect. Some of the English VO is good and some is bad, particularly Ringabell and Agnes bothered me, Some of the Japanese stuff isn't great either however I do find it quite a bit better, maybe it comes with not speaking the language but I don't find so many of the accents stupidly over played (Such as Ringabell's). Anyways that's just a perspective of some one that much prefers the Japanese VO, that doesn't want it no matter what. I'm sure there are people guilty of what you accuse them of but not all.

They made the outfits less skimpy and aged the female characters to at least 18 for the EU version for -undisclosed- reasons...

I'm on chapter two and I've been flip-flopping between the two voice tracks. Neither is great. The Japanese voices are totally anime-cliche bad guy, tough guy, main character guy, kawaii girl etc voices. And the English voices are like a middling dub of said anime.

I'd agree with that for sure, I just find the Japanese marginally less annoying.
