I got scared in the first two minutes that Brad hadn't yet discovered that you could use the firefly to get behind dudes. Thanks Vinny :)

I'm finishing the game tonight, then I'll watch this. I think I know exactly what they'll think about it.

It seems like the combat system is pretty much the same one from the Grandia series. Loving it.

That battle system is straight up Grandia. Like not even changed up all that much aside from that light thing.

Without even looking at the video yet, you already sold me on the game.

Sadly, I think the rhyming thing may be enough to make me not want to play this. Not only is it annoying, but it also doesn't actually rhyme in several places.

Quick! Let's have a look with Brad and Vinny, both of them do not look skinny.

...

Best looking, best sounding game of 2014! I love it.

I bought this on an impulse based on the look, and I'm really loving it so far. That said, I don't know if I actually like the art that much. It's great that it's different, but not that well done though. The environments are nice, but the characters killed my enjoyment at times, that fucking jester really peed me off.

On the other hand, I'm really loving the combat. I HATE turn based combat, and had I know this was turn based, I probarly wouldn't have bought it, but what do you know, it's actually kind of cool. As someone with very little knowledge about these kind of systems, I can't say if it's deep or any good really, but I'm loving the mix of very simple combat moves (Hit, heal, spell that dose damage) , and the real time stuff. Denying the enemy a hit, turn after turn, is one of the best feelings I have had this year.

It's a great game that you should play on hard. Hard forces you too use the timeline system as much as you can and can make the game a little bit difficult. Great art and soundtrack for only $15.

Nah, it lacks the 3d movement that makes timing, character position, and attack strategy so satisfying in Grandia games.

Yes, that's exactly what I want. I certainly didn't say I admired their goals with this and just wished they'd executed them better like three times.

I do feel like the writing, at times, has to try way to hard to keep up with the style that they've set.. but just not really enough to detract from everything else I love about it.

I'd strongly recommend @brad switch to hard mode in order to make the game more fun. It really makes you value stun locking bosses.

Hard is definitely the way to go. Normal was fine for the first few hours but once you've gotten the battle system down and have acquired a bunch of potions it's just too easy. After switching to hard it's way, way better.

And yeah the rhyming isn't very good. It's cute for a couple of minutes, but the more of it you see the more it gets annoying, mainly because it doesn't follow any consistent metre.

I can "Gift" Oculi just fine to peeps on my PS4 friends' list Mr. Brad. Hoping for some good DLC for this game. Also, you get tons of Uplay points which you can spend on potions, Oculi and other stuff in the Uplay store towards this game. Or save 'em for a different game.

Hey @brad you probably know by now, but the reason that fight at the end of the video seemed so rough was because you missed a character (mage, basically) and a dungeon back in the crow-village.

Drab = Bard spelled backwards. Bard = Brad spelled wrong. Coincidence? Yes. I mean no. I don't know.

Absolutely play on Hard -- I started on hard as someone who has played most JRPGs of any note because I love the genre, Hard provides a MUCH greater challenge than what you see here and makes you think about the battles and how you expend the Firefly bar to slow enemies or heal yourself. The balancing act of using enough to slow them so that you interrupt them but not spend too much so you don't run out is great.

I won't say that it gets crazy difficult, but if you're not using that Firefly bar on hard you gonna get destroyed. It makes it SO much more interesting.

It's kind of a basic form of it, but yeah it's built entirely around that style of stunlocking and denying the enemy turns.

Don't be a cad and demand that our Brad in rhyme whoop and holler. He's no artist, just plaid-clothed scholar.

I haven't played Grandia, so I don't know if this happened in that game, but in Child of Light, later on there are enemies that will penalise you for interrupting them (counterattacking, increasing defense/damage, etc).

I really think the title does this game a huge disservice. It's bland in a way that leaves me forgetting this game exists and/or has this stuff in it almost every time I turn away. Given the protagonist, it could have been great to try some cool sounding titles in German or Hungarian.

This isn't to take away from the whole of the game too much but I'll be honest it left me a little deflated to get into it.

Brad blew my mind. I always wondered what english majors studied for all those years. Here I thought rhyming was just making things, well, rhyme - had no idea there was so much theory behind it.

Sorry, this one flew right over my head. My bad. But in fairness, "Brad" and "drab" aren't an immediately recognizable rhyme. :P

The Brad that I know is not quite a scholar. He's just a person with opinions whom we should not bother.
