Quick Look: Dead Rising 2: Off the Record

This is... unexpected. Wait, there was already a quick look of this, five years ago! Maybe I should watch the video to find out what's going on here, I guess.

There isn't a QL of Dead Rising, which didn't see a release on any other platform than Xbox 360. Would have liked to see a PC QL of that instead!

But OTR is fun. Not sure why the double QL tho :P.

I've been hearing people complain that controllers don't work on the PC version. Uh... wtf? Can someone confirm this to be true or false?

When Dead Rising first came out it became one of my favorite games ever. I remember watching Alex's video review and wanting to play it immediately. Watching this makes me want to play Off The Record as it's the only one of these older games I haven't played and it looks like it might be the goofiest. You guys were trying to come up with comparable projects to Case Zero, might I remind you of a tiny little gem called Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Thanks for the video.

Times limits, and getting stuck on the first sheriff boss, (I think that was this one, maybe he was security?), i just couldn't get into this game...

My advice is to always restart the game around lvl 10. This makes any of these games so much easier. Plus you know what's coming ^_^.

@zolroyce: There are some points that you could draw comparison from, but certainly not in terms of value. Case Zero was $5, Ground Zeroes was $40.

Man, I remember this being popular at the time but does it ever seem dull these days.

Weird that this gets a quick look, but not a bad thing. I would have gotten the collection if it had given the option to play the game through without the strict timer. That aspect goes against what I like in the game, which is exploring the setting, the goofy story and even more so characters, as well as just playing around with the assortment of weapons.

Dead Rising 3 for this reason was my favorite Dead Rising, and I'm really excited for four because they're taking it out from what I understand. Just a couple of months ago, before the remasters were announced (though there were rumors), I tried playing the first again, but ended up to just watching all of the story for the first and second, as well as Case West on YouTube. I enjoyed it. I never beat the first two, though I did finish Case Zero.

Glad I am not the only one who thought of this. The ONE time Dan's metal geardar didn't work...I blame metal gear rising. (and oh wow just noticed the title comparison there...wow...but that was intentional. Man konami how low can you sink?)

It's shame this game didn't get an individual physical re-release for $20 like Dead Rising 1 & 2. Also, that they don't include the downloadable prequel and epilogue games for DR2.

I still have a lot of love for these games, dug them out to replay this past week. Look pretty decent in 4k! The first is still pretty great imo. Other then the shooting it feels a lot better then the others. Hauling ass around the mall on the skate board just feels good! IDK a lot of the fun is learning the ins and outs to pretty much break the game making your char OP. Two books, and the hand chainsaws from the clown in the first game and that shit would take FOREVER to break.

The other two games....Eh...Not as fun, but still hit that Im can mindlessly play this and not be bored itch. Never played off the record. Loved Chuck is running around as a nut job with a doll on his back chugging whisky! That was pretty great! I hope the new one turns out!

@mezmero: Super true. It's hard to get a controller working. The only way i could get it to work was through running a program first, DS4Windows using a PS4 controller

I wish I could enjoy these games more but the time limit and how annoying combat was really annoyed me when any enemy besides a zombie shows up. I did enjoy what bit of DR3 I played on X1...I wouldn't mind that game coming to PS4 as well but I might just buy the PC version.

This was the first Dead Rising game I actually played because I got it pretty cheap on PC. Should go back to it one day as they switched from the horrible Games for Windows Live to Steamworks last year.

All you really need to get me into Dead Rising again is say "you can remove the time limit."

edit: in regards to Dead Rising I liked the idea of a mall or casino filled with zombies but none of the other stuff ever clicked with me (the controls/movement, the restrictions, starting over, timed missions, etc.). Like Dark Souls, I can see how they are good games people like, and always wished I would like them.

@crocbox: The pc specs are pretty low and you can pause the timer via trainer for when you have a bunch of missions that you don't have time for.
