Quick Look: DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue

So the Penny Arcade series is unfinished and this is the stuff that was made instead?  I buy adventure games when they're over and hence why I neglected to buy the two PA games.
 
You know what this game is missing?  Dave Grossman and Tim Schafer.  Notice that only Ron Gilbert as far as executive writing and production are concerned.
 
It doesn't help that Ron Gilbert is a "I'm not that into shooters/mainstream games because they're for dumb people" kind of guy.

I enjoyed the first one, but im not ready to go back in. The humor isn't for everyone...but i think there are a few gems of comedy hidden in the poop jokes within Deathspank.  Well it's out if for when i want some more death spank.

I didn't purchase the first game, and after seeing this quick look, I think I made a good choice. The humor isn't nearly what I expected to find... and not enjoyable. Ugh, and they even recycled the Library Card joke from Monkey Island 2.

This game tries too hard. Bioware games are way funnier and they don't even have to try, it just comes naturally to the writers. Here I can just picture a conference room full of lame dudes trying to come up with insanely unfunny shit all day long.

I think the humour in this series is pretty funny. DeathSpank himself is like a cross between Captain Quark from R&C and Zapp Brannigan from Futurama. Of course not every line is LOL worthy but I think it's on a par with Psychonauts or Brutal legend for example. 
 
Also complaining that it's too similar to the first game is kinda missing the point. This isn't DeathSpank 2 but rather DeathSpank: Part Two. You wouldn't complain that Sam & Max Ep 4 is too similar to Sam & Max Ep 3. 

I want to like DeathSpank, but the crappy humor just turns me off.

I don't get what you mean.  Jeff played the first game, and had an opinion on it.  Now he's playing the second game, and his opinion so far is that the game is exactly the same and hasn't improved in any way.  And now you're saying he's unfit to play it because he is capable of comparing it to the first game? I still need to play the first game, looks hilarious and fun.

Don't mind that its the same but why did they recycle the music? Got so sick of game in the first game.

I'm certain the voice actor who did Farmer Blitzbane also did work for the The Legend of Zelda cartoon and First Blood, namely, the helicopter pilot, the painter and and the cop who says: "Talk about your sorry looking piece of humanity."
