If you want you can just mash the buttons, but if you read the tutorials you'll figure our the combo system. Also, once you learn to block, the combat gets pretty deep (for a hack n' slasher).

I love the game, it's super silly and it feels like it might be a good length (ie not 40 hours of dreary trudging).

As someone who has completely finished the game, as in my "Book O' Stats 'N' Stuff" reads percent completed: 100% I can confirm the game is 6 to 8 hours long.

I did ALL the side quests and have all the trophies and my clock times in at 483 minutes, or a bit over 8 hours.  If it takes longer than 10 hours for a single play through, then sad to say, it's you.  I even got a bit stuck a few places and had to do some figuring out of things (fortune cookies expedite this some).

But I did ALL the side quests and got to level 20.  8 Hours.

This is going to go down as a love or hate title.  I played for nonsensical dialog and setting.  I agree on a game play point of view, that I'd probably just go play Torchlight or Titan Quest for loot grind.  I wouldn't play Diablo II because it already owned my life for 4 concurrent years.

Fan of the site, but the quicklook was a bit of a "downer".

Also, don't expect a loot grind like Torchlight, Diablo, Titan Quest, etc. etc. as the loot in here may drop randomly but is anything but random. By the end of the game you will have the best armor and best weapons, it just determines if you are patient enough for it to drop or if you are just going to buy it from a vendor.

I know it doesn't mean much, but I really like the soundtrack in this game. I'll probably take a look at it once it comes out on PC.

Though I thought this Quick Look was a little unenthusiastic, (and to be fair, I don't expect them to be screaming over every tiny morsel of every game), I still picked it up and enjoy it. The style of the game, (the rolling world, the cut out style foliage, the weapons/armor/effects, the stylized humans and even the messages), builds to make it a step apart from other games. As for the humor, which I love, I could see it getting old- but for a game of this length, I doubt it will.

I'm not terribly far into the game, and I already know that the game can be completed in as little as 8 hours, I still think the $15.00 is worth it. As a downloadable game it still beats out some of the games being released today and even some (most) of the previous downloadable games (castlecrashers). I wonder- could downloadable content for these types of games be possible? If so, this $15 purchase would be supreme.

I wish that the second player drop-in was more than just local, but taken as it is- I love it. I've gotten my wife to jump in with me a couple of times and its pulled her away from Guitar Hero/Rockband long enough to be interested in hack'n'slashes.

I purchased this game, and me and my fiance been playing this game together, him being DeathSpank and me being the Magician <-- I don't really know if the thing has a name...

Parts have made me laugh. I think is a cool little game. IT IS FUNNY.... But sometimes :) I enjoy the crazyness of it and the ridiculous banter here and there... The game is a lot better than this QuickLook gives it credit. Brad sounded rushed, in my opinion.

BUT THE VOICE!!!!! sounds like a something ive heard before, people help!!! Cartoon character!!! which one hmmmm ...........

@JessicaBoo: He sounds like either "The Tick" from the live action TV show or Saturday morning cartoon series of yesteryear or like Captain Quark from the Ratchet & Clank series.

The voice actor is neither of those individuals, however.

Looks like fun but I don't think I would buy it for $15. I think I would wait for it to go on sale or gameshare it on PSN or see if it can be free to download on PSN+.

yeah i agree with people supporting this game i would say at least play the demo and see how you like it. Jeff started hating the game before he even seen it so he will not give you a fair impression of it. I say the humor is in the same vain as the cartoon the tick if you remember that show. So if that kind of humor is not your thing then i understand but i enjoyed the demo after not thinking much of the game.

Why do the GB staff completely avoid learning how to properly utilize game features?  They hate reading manuals and instructions even more than the youth of this country hate reading books.

Exactly I don't buy PSN/XBL games that cost $10-$15 cause that is expensive.

The Good/Bad Slider is such a great stab at morality meters.

Games with Morality meters may as well have you choose whether you want to be Good or Bad at the start of the game.

I bought this (and beat it) over the weekend. It's pretty decent, although I wish it was longer or had more replay value to it after you finish the game. Once you finish all the sidequests and the main storyline, there's nothing else to do.

Art style reminds me very slightly of Psychonauts. I suppose that since Ron Gilbert used to work with Tim Schafer they are kind of developing in similar directions.

Hardly a 6-8 hour game, I have already spent 10 hours? They said it was 10-15 not approx 15. "
Jeff 100%'d it in 5 hours.

That kinda sounds like any other $60 rpg game, no?  So since you get all that for $15 this game is a steal!

I'll add my 2 cents. I'm still playing through the game and I'm really enjoying it. After I played the demo I knew I'd be purchasing this game.

The humor isn't laugh out loud funny (but honestly, for this jaded gamer and all of you out there,  how many games truly fall into that category? ) but it's funny enough.  It makes fun of all the obvious game conventions such as conveniently placed explosive barrels, the sacred quest for some rare and powerful artifact, and even non-playable characters, I like games that don't take themselves too seriously and the ridiculous title, "Deathspank" , should be an obvious indication of exactly where the developer was going tonally.

I think the art style of this game is fantastic. The color palette is rich and varied and on my tv set everything seems to pop if you know what I mean. The scale of the characters in relation to their environment reminds me of "Overlord" and thankfully that's where the comparison ends. You'll feel as if you're traversing a circular surface that moves as your character moves. The objects like houses and brush have this very cool pop-out art book style and it works very well with this particular style of game play.

Overall I'm pleased with my purchase. I'm all for more downloadable, 10-15 hour games like Shadow Complex, DeathSpank, etc.
