I was weary about this game as a DMC fan, but after watching the quick look, it looks pretty alright. Maybe it's not DMC, but it seems good in different ways. The environments are cool as hell.

There are not many good games in the character action genre, like, less than a dozen. So Devil May Cry was one of the few games that perfectly fit that niche. The series no longer fits that niche. The combat is now a casual color coordinated grind, the main character is a foul mouthed junkie club kid, and the story decided to go into an edgy direction. These people *loved* this series, and its gone, and its likely to never come back, and that's a bummer, even to a person like me, a person that's never played a DMC game. Insulting them, implying that they have bad taste, that they only liked the series because they were children when they started playing it, it's fucked up and mean.

Imagine this, tomorrow they decide to reboot Resident Evil, call it The Resident Evil. But, its actually a remake of Blue Stinger with the control scheme of Dead Space. That sounds rad and I could be way into that, but its a huge 'fuck you' to the fans of the series, and if they get mad about it, I don't blame them. I'd rather they just started a new IP instead of fucking up someone else's darling series. Shit, I know how it feels. I was a Dragon Age fan until Dragon Age 2 came out. Its depressing seeing your favorite thing ruined. People can get carried away and say mean things, but being just as mean in response doesn't help anybody.

I agree that Devil may cry was great. People did love it. I love the hell out of it. But it still doesn't make sense that people are so attached to it as a series that they get outraged when a game that isn't identical to all the other ones is made. And why are you even outraged, you didn't even play them and have less stake in this than anyone. Also, since you say you never played them: this one looks a lot like those. It looks like it plays similarly and does a lot of the same things and it looks like it plays really well. I look forward to buying it, it will be another entry in that dozen or so good character action games.

Sure it sucks to have a good thing ruined, like Dragon Age 2 did, but fortunately this looks like its also great and isn't ruining anything. People are just mad because apparently its slightly different, even though it looks like the best part -- the combat, is still just as strong and the story potentials even more entertaining. The DMC stories were always just really dumb, though 4 wasn't as good in that regard. And maybe not 2 either, I never really played 2.

It's probably still not as good as Bayonetta though.

@Enigma777: Why would they 'name it something else' when it is CLEARLY a Devil May Cry game? The action, the combo system everything is the same.

I'm just not interested in playing a game like this unless it's God of War or Ninja Gaiden.

Well it's like God of War now.

Oh come on. Don't be ridiculous. There are no quick time events and the game isn't piss easy so it's definitely not God of War. If you want to criticize this game for not being 100% like the previous DMC games, that's fine. But don't insult it like that.

At least it's in the same damn genre and with the same gameplay elements, not like Fallout 3 or something.

I have a problem with calling this Devil May Cry, but I put a post-it-note that said Slashy Meany Dude over top of the title and now I feel way better. I think Slashy Meany Dude is a pretty decent game.

The point of a reboot is that not everything is the same.

I prefer the reboot of DmC than any DMC games prior to it. Oddly enough, DmC is the highest scoring DMC game after the original one on the PS2. Shows that reviewers largely prefer it to its original japanese roots. I'm not saying the older titles were bad; they were fun and goofy. But I actually really prefer the western look and feel to it. After replaying DMC4 last week, I'm quite glad to see that we now have a full game, not only a game that you do backwards halfway through. I also couldn't stand any more cheese from those cheesy dialogs.

Story is more serious than past DmC games, new devs, new game, get over it.

@Nettacki: Ninja Theory. I'd assume that the reason they'd want to take it on is because they were fans of the original franchise and wanted to give their own spin to it.

Your assumption would be wrong, for there are various interviews with the lead writer Tameem and a few "jokes" in-game that shows that they never had any love for the series in the first place (stuff like how old Dante doesn't fit with his expectations of what's "cool" and claims this new Dante is cooler) and only wanted to make a reboot of a franchise because they were obligated to by Capcom.

Or it could be that the rabid DMC fan base are interjecting negative connotations on what Ninja Theory might be doing so they can feel better about themselves on hating the game from the get go.

But it's okay, majority of "gamers" have no clue about general game development and the people that do it.

I love the previous Devil May Cry games and think Ninja Theory is one of the top video game developers right now. DmC Devil May Cry is right up my alley, then.

I've never played a Devil May Cry game before and I had zero interest in this game before watching this quicklook; just preordered it on Steam, hope it's as good as it looks, the Darksiders comparison really did it for me.

The thing I don't get about these ultra fan-boys is that half of the series was shitty anyway. Hard to get too butthurt about a reboot when There have been 4 previous DMC games and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is the 3rd best game with Dante in it

Story is more serious than past DmC games, new devs, new game, get over it.

Story is outright worse unless you like a script that reads like a ten-year-old wrote it, with such brilliant dialogue as "I'm your prom date you ugly sack of shit" and "fuck you" repeated verbatem. It takes itself more seriously but that doesn't make it "more serious" and I'd go further; the lack of self-awareness makes it far, far worse.

DMC never had a great story [I liked it though] but it was never as vapid as in this reboot.

I think it's just jilted lover syndrome. People invested hundreds of hours over a decade and they were basically told that their time investment, interest, and hundreds of dollars wasn't good enough. Their love moved on, changed up their style and the only saving grace in the darkest portions of the jilted's hearts would be a colossal failure on the part of DmC, only now, it's the new hotness. A shame, but I've been on that side of the equation on other fronts so I guess I can understand.

Sounds like I've played and liked about as much as the guys with the original DmC. Though I actually liked Heavenly Sword. This looks intriguing indeed. May have to check this out.

I still like DMC3 better than this, but this is in second place for sure. The way the story unfolds I get why they didn't do this, but I'd like to see more insane cutscenes.

I played the older games a lot, and I have a lot of love for DMC1 and DMC3. A long time ago, I remember reading threads on /v/ about this game and being absolutely pissed. And after seeing this game in motion, I have to say, nice job Ninja Theory. I really like the environment. It does something I've always loved in the silent hill games, and it seems to have an over the top crazy vibe. Consider me pleasantly surprised.

I am a huge fan of the DMC series. The whole thing. I've played every game , the only one I didn't complete 100% was DMC2, but I did play through it with both characters. Next to DMC2, I'd say the one I enjoyed the least was DMC4, if only because you had to essentially play through the whole game before the combat actually opens up upon unlocking Dante.

That being said; I really enjoy this new DmC, and it probably ranks up a tie with DMC1 as my second favorite devil may cry, next to 3 being the best. There is nothing wrong with this game, sure, not EVERY enemy type is likely to catch you in a 3-man pincer hit that takes two thirds of your health, but it does happen sometimes.

The basic difficulties are much easier, yes, but I'm not against less skilled players being able to enjoy this game. If you have played and completed any of the DMC games before, you just start this one on Nephilim, where it provides a level of difficulty I'd say is just a tad under the standard difficulty of DMC3 (which was a game that was completely inacessible to un-skilled players).

Once you get on to the Son of Sparda and Dante must Die modes, you'll get a challenge you're more used to as a DMC fan. I think the group of people that will still have complaints in this regard, are such a small demographic that it would be a laughably poor business choice for Ninja Theory to have tried to specifically cater to. On the harder difficulties, this game will be plenty hard for anyone but the most dexterous Street Fighter tournament players out there. And we can't judge how hard it is to SSS fully complete this game, as Bloody Palace isn't even out yet, and that was the part of DMC3 that everyone praises so much about its difficulty.

The voice acting and visual panache this game has, definitely elevates it for me in terms of fun-factor, and all in all, this game deserves a chance from both old DMC fans and players new to the franchise as well.

I mean, everyone praises Bayonetta so much... that game was made by the creator of the original DMC series, and it's not nearly as difficult as DMC3 either. In my opinion, DMC4 was a step down for the series, and with Hideki Kamiya not involved anymore, this was a perfectly fine time for a reboot. Fans need to stop comparing this to the other "new old DMC game" that was NEVER GOING TO EXIST.

Prefer Hideki's character designs? Well your in luck, because Bayonetta 2 is in the works. Otherwise, mechanically this is a perfectly entertaining 'character action game' (thanks, GB! xD).

So please if you are really a fan of this type of game; stop trying to bring down DmC, which is a really good one. Instead, go back to hating on Ninja Gaiden 3; which is a game that actually deserves it.
