If you're new to Diablo, make sure you make a seasonal character to get the season rewards. There's literally no reason not to ?

This game looks disgustingly washed out. I don't know if that's the Switch or the game.

I've never played Diablo 3 but fell pretty hard for Path of Exile for a couple-hundred hours. I think this might be my new podcast game!

No way to convert a normal character to seasonal, right? I made that crusader for this QL, probably will delete him and start a new one if not.

@brad: Correct, you have to start a new character, or do rebirth. At such a low level it doesn't really matter which option you pick. The whole purpose of rebirth is so you don't have to delete though.

@brad: You can rebirth a normal character into a seasonal one. Your items will be deposited into your non-seasonal inventory, and your character will be reborn as a seasonal level 1.

@loktarogar: It's not the version, that's just the aesthetic they went with for some reason. Which is funny, since before the game's release there was a lot of controversy over the decision to make everything look a little more like it could fit in WoW. A lot of flat colors, etc.

Upside is that D3 can run on a potato.

This is so tempting. Diablo 3 is still the best ARPG out there IMO.

I get Brad's confusion over what exactly a Diablo 4 would even be. Unless they have a massive rework of the ability/rune system or a different art direction in mind, seems like a 5-act xpac for D3 featuring different characters/classes in a different time period and location would be perfectly fine.

And maybe they wouldn't feel compelled to have us kill the devil (again).

I tried to get into diablo 3 on PC recently, having never played a diablo game before, and it felt really antiquated to me. It's hard for me to understand why you'd play this today over an MMORPG or one of the many loot grind games that diablo spawned in other genres, outside of nostalgia or an interest in gaming history.

I still think these are some of the worst possible co-op games. From players wandering off/moving on too quickly/slowly to being filled with dead time as people sort through or sell stuff. Worst of all it makes people who have to do that feel bad because they're holding up their friend(s).

Still love this game to bits, however mindless it ultimately is. The skinner box is intense with this.

Now only if I want to shell out $60 for digimal but have it ready to go at any time...

Also fucking crazy that 6 years have come and gone like that.

@thepotatoman: It just feels great and snappy to me still, personally. And I personally don't feel other loot games really compare, at least as far as loot goes. Shadow of War, maybe? What's a good loot grind game or two in your opinion? I keep falling off of PoE though I know everyone LOVES it.

Maybe this game just came at the right time for me.

Think seeing a couple videos of this over the last few days, may just make me get back into the PS4 version too.

Only got the hardcore mode trophies between me and the platinum. Dunno if I'm into that much commitment, though - I remember getting ganked by a randomly OP enemy a couple times, going through it normally.

People cried relentlessly about goddamned Fortnite crossplay and accounts not carrying over on PS4.

I'd just be happy with the same set of wings and pets across my various installations of Diablo 3.

@zeetos: Honestly the whole QL would've been better from Jeff's or even Brad's view as the more experienced and, frankly, seemingly more interested of the group.

What I want from a Diablo 4 is a story that isn’t physically painful to sit through, and characters who aren’t insufferable tropey trash.

The Diablo 3 loop has been distilled into the most pure form of repetitive loot grind by this point. The season feature is such a good idea—simple for Blizzard to manage and gives players that loop they crave. I was very happy when they put it on consoles. Did anyone figure out if you have to be constantly online for a seasonal character?

My only gripe about the console version is the prevalence of hacked characters. Not much to do about it, but it prevents me from going online with randos ever.

This seems like the time to actually put some time into D3, portable seems like the perfect format for this kind of game.

I played the Monk on the pc, what are people's favourite classes?

Oh man, getting the itch to play again. Played a lot with my ex. We mostly did the seasonal content. She favoured monk and necromancer where I was demon hunter and wizard.

Funny hearing Brad be surprised at how fast he levels up. Iirc when you learn the loop you can hit max level in an evening or two.

I don’t play other Blizzard games so when I got into Diablo 3 I was kind of astounded at how bad the writing was.

This and the mobile Diablo announcements are mainly going to get me to dive back into the PC version. Like Jeff I'm always interested in being able to play on a different platform, but having to entirely re-do everything doesn't sound great compared to just rolling a class I haven't tried on PC and keeping all my existing stash/paragon/achievement stuff you get across characters.

And to follow on the discussion on where Diablo goes from here, beyond the mobile offshoot, I'd expect them to take a lot of lessons from something like Path of Exile, with a nicer spin on a lot of their innovations. The main thing would be for them to give it some reasonable ongoing revenue streams for people to support the game and further development, as opposed to just expecting Blizzard to keep developing things for the game out of the goodness of their heart.

As is, I've been very surprised about people complaining about where they're going to take D3, given that they've offered a few paid expansions but otherwise they've just been doing free content work on the game for years. I understand Blizzard is nice with support for old games, but expecting them to constantly keep things fresh and new for a game gets a little crazy at some point.

When they announced Diablo Mobile I was actually quite pumped until I saw that it's dumbed down and a re-skin of a Diablo rip-off, might have to pick this up...

@drm2thej:

You can play seasonal local solo, or online for groups. Also, no hacked characters in seasons on console so you can open your game to public or join games with 4 objectives choices for matchmaking: bounties, rifts, greater rifts, and uber farming. 99% of my time spent with D3 is playing seasons nowadays, and you get a pet and new portrait every season for finishing the first 4 chapters of the seasonal objectives.

The Good: Played it over a local network with friends yesterday while we were hanging out before dinner and it was awesome.

The Bad: No voice chat in the game and it's not supported but the Switch phone app voice feature...
