Quick Look: Dragon Quest Builders

Oh man, hearing that overworld music fade in was such a nostalgia rush.

Makes a Minecraft-esk game, doesn't release it on PC... smart.

I've been waiting for this, but somehow I missed that it as only on Playstation. :( (I have a playstation, I'd just prefer to play this on PC)

I can't believe I'm probably going to have to eventually buy a PS4 for this. Why won't they whitelist this for PS TV??? arggh

I wish this was out on PC. But I guess that since it's out on Vita, the PS3 version is probably alright too.

@pompouspizza: Yeah, it seems so. I think I decided on PS4 anyway after playing them both.

This needs to be on the computer so I can play it. And time to brad 35...he did realize it but it did tell you that the iron hammer was needed....

But yeah this does look cool I wish I could buy it for the computer.

This game looks pretty cool. I've never gotten into the DQ games, probably because only recently did most of them come to America.

Wait, don't I remember Dan once saying he subscribed to Nintendo Power as a kid? How has he never heard of Dragon Warrior, when Nintendo Power literally gave away free copies of that game to their subscribers one year, sometime in the early 90s?

I got Dragon Warrior as a kid thru some weird Nintendo Power deal. Haven't given it much though since then but, the music brought me back.

@shaunk: Actually, most of the Dragon Quests were released in the US shortly after their original Japanese releases. For example, DQ1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, and 9 were all released in the US just a couple years after their original releases. A lot of the spinoffs were also released in the US in a timely fashion, such as Dragon Quest Monsters 1+2, Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 1+2, and Rocket Slime. I have many fond memories of playing the original Dragon Quest games on my NES. One of the series that got me into RPGs.

Though I'm sad that the original DQ5 wasn't released in the US, as it's by far my favorite in the series. But fortunately the remake on DS is really good. As in it's one of my favorite games ever.

I'm a big Dragon Quest fan, and this looks like a lot of fun. I like collecting games and crafting games, plus RPG's are my favorite genre. I'm in on this one. I have Amazon Prime so I can take off another 20% this week and next when purchasing new games.

Dragon Quest V is in my top 5 games of all time, too.

@fisk0: Dragon Quest Heroes was released on PC around a year after the PS4 release, so it's not completely out of the realms of possibility.

Looks neato. Probably will pick it up once it gets a price cut, though. Have not played a Town Building RPG since the days of Dark Cloud. Also this has me pretty hype for the DQ8 re-release, that was a hell of a game.

I'm about 10-12 into this and am really digging it. I also played like a 1000 hours of minecraft back in 2009 during grad school and one of my top five games of all time is Dragon Quest Monsters: Rocket Slime... so I might be biased.

didn't like mine craft but i'm 2 hrs into this and i'm feeling it take me away from life as i know it.

DQ is my second favorite video game franchise, having finished DQ1 through 9, and a whole slew of spin-offs, including the ones on 3DS that are still Japan-exclusive.

Still, I didn't think slapping a DQ skin on Minecraft was gonna convince me to get into it, but the more I see and hear about this game, the more I wanna play it. They made exactly the right changes for Minecraft to be palatable to me, and the DQ music (even moreso than the graphics, honestly) is a huge bonus.

Will probably pick this up along with Dishonored 2 when I get a PS4 Pro next month.

That overworld music reminds me of Dark Chronicle.

Can't believe I'm gonna have to play this when I finally get a PS4.

I can't stand DBZ-style art (don't remember the artist name, don't care) so I've never played a Dragon Quest game because they grossed me out, but this looks too cool gameplay-wise to miss out on completely.

Huh, it's only on PlayStation, weird. I'd assumed the entire time that this was a PC game since it's like Minecraft. That seems super weird that they wouldn't put this out for PC.

There may still be a PC port planned. The PC port of Dragon Quest Heroes was announced about a month after the PS3/PS4 release and then was released on Steam about a month later.

I can see this game taking a similar path, which could mean a PC release some time in December.

DQ8 is one of the most legit JRPGs around and DQH is the only musou game that has clicked with me. That said, this feels more like a Vita game to me so I'll hold off until the day I finally get one of those.

Played quite a bit of it after picking it up yesterday. It's basically Dark Cloud 2.5, or as close to more Dark Cloud as it seems we're ever going to get.

@virtorio: Same. I'd even get PSNow if it were on there. Maybe I should get a PSTV? I don't own a TV though, only a monitor and I don't know if I want to go through the hassle.

now dq7 and yokai watch 2 for some dumb reason and titanfall 2 which i almost forgot about but is awesome and neither here nor there but even considering that dumb dq musou and now this. good luck to me to find time to play it all. either that or ill show a modicum of willpower (pshyeah...)

Not 100% sure why... but after all the hype over on 8-4 and the measured discussion in this QL I couldn't resist. Totally bought and barring any crazy storm related power outages here in Seattle am looking forward a nice chill evening Dragoning, Questing and Building.

I wish this was a Wii U game.
