I seriously turned my computer on, opened giantbomb, quickly looked at the thumbnail and did a double take. Almost spit out my cereal.

EDIT: That gameface is really good at this point, man. Aside from the head being kinda big on the body, it looks pretty great. Head-tech is getting great these days. As for the game itself, it certainly looks really pretty (muscle and tendon movements are incredible) but the animation and contact between fighters seems less fluid than the original THQ UFC 2009 Undisputed game.

I mean, that first fight KO didn't really feel like the guy was getting worn down, or that the final punch was a very solid impact. Seemed like the game just decided he was done. In Undisputed it always felt like KOs came either after the opponent was really reeling or there was a particularly vicious connection (such as the opponent moving into a strike in just the wrong way). And while that game did a weird thing where replays were re-rendered to make contacts look better, I thought that was a really nice touch.

Drew happened to watch the most boring card that has been put on in recent history. Here is the lady-fighters eye cut he was talking about.

I won't lie, I watched this mainly to see digital Jeff knock a dude out. Was not disappointed.

Also, the walk-out songs (talking about Gustafsson's walk out discussion of song choice) are not particularly accurate. The game has a limited set of licensed songs and the walk outs are basically done pretty generic with the song basically being filler rather than accurate representation of what songs they generally have. I'm saying this because Gustafsson has walked out to (in his most recent fights) Dropt the world by Lil Wayne, Wake me Up by Avicii (not saying I'm a big fan of either song, just saying) as well as at his most recent fight he walked out to the Swedish national anthem with Zlatan Ibrahimović narrating rather than singing the lyrics (the one used in a Volvo commercial). It would have added a sense of authenticity not present at this time.

So it would have been pretty sweet if they could have made sure to get licenses to the songs the fighters actually use as opposed to a handful of licensed songs and a bunch of generic EA songs.

Also, Im not sure about the actual game part, but the visuals in the game are amazing. Ill never pay money for this, but I love downloading demos for these types of games at the beginning of a generation and taking in the shiny new graphics

This game seems very bare bones, as I feared. Jeff was button mashing like mad though.

if this is the future of MMA games I am not sure I can get into it.. It does not look like a real fight at all. The animations get reused constantly and are the same for every fighter it seems. The pacing seems all wrong, fighters just winging it and not fighting smart. You can take spinning back kicks to the face for fuck sake and not flinch. There is hardly any fighting for takedowns, either you get it right away or it gets stuffed. Granted I have not played this game, as an MMA fan I am not sure I will either. So disappointing, maybe my hopes were too high.
