Vinny should read about New York's Brother Island if he wants to see nature taking something back.

Wow that's pretty fascinating. @vinny should check it out.

The part where you guys were thinking about a specific typ of games being a result of a generation feeling certain way etc. is actually pretty great observation. I recommend a documentary "Everything is a Remix" where those ideas are explored - I find some parts of it fascinating. Leads to a conclusion that every form of art is basically a result of the state the society is in. For example many inventions were made in several places almost simoutaneously with no direct connection to each other.

There's about to be a Quick Look, hopefully that convinces. Been playing it and worth it just for the breathtaking views.

@murdoc_: oh give me a break haha. These types of games are a fad now due to Day-Z. The end, no philosophical deep meanings. The survival game fad is an extension of the zombie survival game fad

Welcome to the weed-apocalypse were everyone was too stoned to continue upkeep and maintenance on buildings and infrastructure so it all eroded away and was reclaimed by nature.

What you guys mentioned about the survival genre being a weird occurrence in a lot of games these days -- I think you're on to something. I think a lot of us might feel a need to move back to more simple lifestyles (even if we love technology), but are not sure how to go about that.

These days it's survival games, but in the past there have been games like Harvest Moon to kind of fulfill that wish for a "simple life" (or going *cough*"back to nature"*cough*)

This music is perfect for a Cormac McCarthy reading! Though I wouldn't really ascribe it to being post rock. I'd say in spirit it's more like Loren Mazzacane Connors, John Fahey, Ry Cooder or some of Jim O Rourke's work. Absolutely beautiful though. Post rock is a vague genre to begin with so yeah whatever. Check out the Kranky label for great post rock!

Vinny, you need to watch Life After People. It might be an overused trope, and may be accelerated for dramatic effect, but nature would have no problem taking over humanity's works if people weren't around making sure shit was cleaned.

I lost it when Vinny read Alex's note as the narrator at the end there. He reminded me of ResearchIndicates' LP of Jurassic Park Trespasser.

Interesting game. Probably not for me but the QL discussion went to some excellent places. As did the comments, because I know I'll be listening to this right now:

So it's the official Agalloch video game?

16 minutes in and it reminds me of the more mellow Opeth stuff. Though I almost have no frame of reference for music like this anymore. It's been a long time since I listened to anything but old favorites in this 'genre', whatever it might be.

Love hearing Vinny and Alex talk about weed as if it's this massively foreign concept to them. Especially with what Alex has admitted on this site in the past, and rumors of a Bombin episode where he forgot to move his bong out of frame.

Proteus meets Shelter. This is exactly my kind of game. Also reminds me of MirrorMoon EP.

I wasn't interested in this game until I heard this description.

Anyway, listed to Our Fortress Is Burning, it's one of the best things they've done.
