I figured the first bit would be a black and white land where the action was akin to pong to really get that progression in. Just for a little bit, like a child's game of catch before you go full Zelda.

Saw most of what I wanted to see from this game in the first five minutes of this quick look. I was kind of hoping for more out of that part of the game. I'm still interested, but much less so.

Bought this game a few days ago, and this video only confirms that I need to play it soon. Good fun.

Welcome to my Steam wishlist, Evoland. May you sit on there till the next big sale or should you be part of a Humble Bundle.

I'd just like to say it keeps going long past what you think it does. There are a good couple of hours in this game.

For anyone interested I've been playing this game for a while and it has quite a lot more tricks up it's sleeves. It delves into different gameplay styles for sure.

The last portion of the game is one long ass hallway and super annoying androgynous characters.

Don't know if I'd ever play it, but it's a cool idea for sure. If I was still in my JRPG phase, I'd probably be all over it.

Like the look of this game, but I wonder if the appeal might wear thin when the game just becomes another RPG itself...

GOG is no longer 'Good Old Games', the site is just GOG now. So yes this is on there.

I upvoted this on Greenlight but it looks like the evolution happens too quickly and it doesn't look like the gimmick is backed up by the gameplay.

Ditto. The fact that the 'story' seems to be the mechanics rather than just making use of the mechanics is a big bummer, too.

Seems like there's no advantage to buying the Steam version in this case; if the soundtrack is at all decent, it's free with the GOG one.

I freakin' loved Triple Triad! It was awesome. The Final Fantasy IX card game was super lame in comparison. Couldn't get into it. Yeah, and I never understood Blitzball. It kinda sucked.

It was fun and cool to go through the evolution, but as soon as I saw a village I went "Fuck that!", even in this game exploring the village and talking to NPCs is a chore and a borefest. Personally there should have been three chest in the village, first one NPCs appear, second you grow up, third one BURN THAT EFFING PLACE DOWN!, that's the evolution of gaming, we don't have villages anymore.

Ugh, the pixel art is giving me a headache watching this in full screen.

But I love the player training in the forum of unlocked achievements. That's brilliant. It's practically calibration at that point. I love it.

The way how brad plays is pretty bad for quick looks.

Never try out magic, probably thinking what if I need the mana later.

Yeah, he always, always goes out of his way to get collectibles and it always ends up being boring, he'll constantly refuse to show off features of the game because he doesn't want to mess up his save, and a lot of times his quick look partner will suggest he do things or show off certain things and he'll just brush it off with "nahhh" or something.

Ok but it's a retarded way to do a quick look, really, he doesn't want to mess his saves? I won't comment further or I'll get banned.

I was interested in buying this after the first 5 minutes but then it ran out of ideas. It seemed to run into the problem that all throwback games which make fun of tropes run into which is that they make play the stuff they make fun which is not fun ever. Just look at both Deathspank games for a perfect example of this

When they first unlock the music, the tune that starts playing is... fucking super familiar but I can't place it. Is it taken from something I'm forgetting, or is it just made to sound like every old RPG theme?

@almostswedish: When I played through it I didn't have to grind at all. If Brad had checked all of the cabinets and stuff he probably would have had enough to buy the armor and the sword without going back out. It isn't long enough to have grinding in it. It's about 3 hours long.

It looks like a clever idea, but since so many things were dumped out over the course of the first 5 minutes it does not seem like the ideas would be well implemented over the course of the game. Based on many of the comments I have read it seems like that is a criticism that many are making against Evoland.

Perhaps I will catch the game on sale one day.

I love jack in the box tacos! When Jeff said that they were good, I said to myself damn straight they are. Evoland seems pretty cool. I missed out on the majority of the early rpgs but I like the concept it's going for. If it ever shows up on psn I'll buy it, or maybe I should just buy a pc...

Like lots of people are saying. I think it would have been a good idea to space out the unlocks a bit more or mayke it a 15-20 minute mini game.
