Quick Look: Fable Anniversary

I thoroughly enjoyed the original release of Fable. It's a shame to see so many people outright hate the franchise seemingly purely because of Peter's hype building shenanigans. Also, stop letting Brad run quick looks. All he did was wander around for 40 minutes.

@wolfgame: I just recently replayed fable (not the hd remake) and had a ton of fun with it.

Fable 1 is the hardest of the Fables. Some obnoxious stuff in there.

The character models in this remake look rough with wet skin texture.

Dammit... kinda want to load up Fable or Fable 2 now.

@msavo: Yeah. Fable 3 is alright until you become king then it just shits the bed so hard.

Ugh the new styling on character modeling is grotesque, the cartoony style was better by far.

I prefer Fable 1 over Fable 2 and probably know too much about the game. Fable 2 was garbage and the slow decent of Lionhead into being a con artist of a developer.

I wonder if they fixed the game breaking bug in this one yet. It's only been like 10 years.

I love Brad, and I really like his quick looks in general...but he should pick a point in the game with STUFF going on in it to show off. I get it when he starts from the beginning, ala the DR3 DLC quick look a little back but when you're midway through the game, yanno...

Still, looks cool. I liked the first game. Too bad this isn't on PC =/

It's funny, now the face no longer matches the one shown in in game art depicting the hero.
I prefer the way the old PC version looks to this.

This is the only Fable I haven't played much of. I own the original PC port on Steam but it's from the era before good controller support. Maybe I'll give it a shot again at some point since this remake will probably never come to PC.

Makes me want to go play Fable 2. God I love that game.

Why would you lower the volume? The volume is already so low on all GB videos made in the past 2 years that I have to play all GB content with the knob on my mixer set to +10dB, and then damn near blow my speakers if I forget to nudge it back to -5 before watching/listening to anything else.

Wasn't the original Fable using Unreal Engine 2? Porting it to UE3 probably wasn't that much of a mess.

I loved Fable so I may pick this up and Fable 2 again

Yea I'll stick with playing The Lost Chapters on PC. This looks like shit. Also, I love you Brad but you suck at video games. Either that or you choke under pressure. That pressure being the "record" button.

This series never really did it for me. Okay premise, not that fun in the long run, and it always bummed me out a ton that pretty much every weapon upgrade was a re-skin.

If this comes to PC I will buy Fable 1 for the fourth time.

Loved Fable 1 & 2.

But the lighting here looks odd: colors are dark and washed out, the days & nights look overcast. Maybe it's rose-colored glasses, but I recall Fable being a much brighter game.

I wonder how much this is a result of the Unreal Engine?

Fable was never what I wanted it to be. The way it was first talked about made me picture an Elder Scrolls game where the passage of time had a significant impact on your character and the world. Acron to tree and all that bullshit. The resulting clunky action game with light RPG mechanics and an incredibly closed world wasn't what I was expecting, but I still found it kinda charming and I enjoyed it.

That being said Fable 2 and 3 were fucking badl. If I recall there were rose-tinted views on Giant Bomb for Fable 2, but it always rang false to me. That game was a total mess and while 3 was technically less of a shit show it still wasn't very good.

I have zero interest in more Fable, but revisiting the original is actually something I wouldn't mind doing.

I have always thought the Fable games have had some of the worst humor. Funny voices and farts doesn't make anything good.

This HD remix looks terrible and they're charging $40 for it? What a fucking ripoff.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Fable. The games were flawed, but I fell in love with the fantasy world that Molyneaux and Lionhead crafted. The first game was obviously rushed, in that the ending was completely and awkwardly abrupt and lazily wrapped up, but the game still had potential. Fable 2 was fantastic. Yea, the game was too easy, and the menus were a god damned mess, but I just couldn't get enough of the look, feel, tone, and story that game had to offer. I found it to be oddly charming. I never played 3, however. I missed out when it went free on XBLA, which is a shame, because despite it's apparent flaws, I bet I could find some gem of potential. I guess that's what Fable is to me. A fantastically woven world with a lot of potential. A diamond in the rough, as they say.

All the talk about the menus being almost the same made me chuckle, considering they look completely different. Who needs research?

Looks pretty rad though. I dig the Fable series(though Fable III had a crap ending).

They should have just remade it....so much potential squandered.

I have fable 2 and I really really wanted to like it, but after 15 hours of trying my hardest to find a reason to like it, I figured it was just not for me. I respect the games though!

Fable 2 PC with a visual update, some better load times, and better co-op (that camera??) would be really the only thing I would think about playing outside of a brand new "proper" Fable game. These games are pretty cool, even if something like The Witcher 2 blows it out of the water (though Witcher is much more serious and isn't super English.) This update seems competent enough.

Once upon a time well prior to release, this game had been billed as some sort of complex Morrowind-esque RPG but with good combat.

Watching this made tempted to buy Fable 3 on PC but then i remembered GfWL is dead so it's probably unplayable anyway. I kinda liked Fable 3, it was just how easy it was to get the Super Good ending that was trivial.

Wow, looks like they managed to make all of the characters look worse. Everyone looks like they have fetal alcohol syndrome.

I played this game about a year ago on PC and it was just riddled with issues that I put up with despite not wanting to. It looks like they didn't do anything to fix any of the issues and the game ran at a higher resolution on the version I played on with no framerate problems so.....I don't see any reason to pick this up.

I enjoyed the Fable series overall for the most part, well 3 not so much. This brings back some memories but eh I don't really see the improvements here, doesn't seem worth getting.
