Quick Look: Forza 4

I think I have finally hit the aforementioned burning out point for racers, it looks great but there is only so many times I can re-tread the same game.

Its weird that I've only got to the tipping point now, I blame GT5 for this.

The Forza games especially I have found to get extremely repetitive quickly with the career modes. And for as much fun as multiplayer is, it is often only possible with friends. Its hard to find an entertaining balance with randoms, who are either way too serious (skilled) or just try to shunt everyone off the track at the first turn.

No matter what the game, the Mazda MX-5 is always the right choice for a starter car.

Wait a minute... Jeff drives a Mustang?!

The fights between the bumper cam vs cockpit always get me. The idea behind the bumper cam is that when you're driving a car you're almost always looking out the windshield to the road (unless you're a douchebag). The cockpit view makes me feel like a tiny ass person that's reclined way too far back.

I feel like we won't be seeing any meaningful updates to the Forza series until the next generation because they are probably limited by what the xbox 360 can do at this point. A new console would allow them to write a new engine with a better driving model and physics simulation and a dramatic jump in graphical fidelity.

Jeff, you should get a new Mustang. The Challenger looks great, but the interior is kind of cheap and plasticky looking (almost too retro). I am a fairly heavy guy too and I don't find my Mustang to be too cramped. The Camaro was definitely way too cramped inside and had all kinds of bad visibility issues.

I was really digging the autovista stuff, and I figured Dave would be more into it, since he has done QLs for all those obscure train and farm sim games and stuff.

does every racing sim these days have to have some homage to initial D?

looks pretty good. the bowling stuff looks cool. we need more stuff like that. things you can't usually do with cars, but in a simulation-style game like Forza.

Jeff: If you're looking for roomy, I don't see how the IS-F is a contender. The IS-series Lexus is relatively small inside. Something like a Cadillac CTS Coupe or the Dodge Charger/Challenger would probably be more to your liking.

Jeff's right. BMWs are not cool anymore. Too many people just drive them as a luxury status symbol rather than because they appreciate the performance. They're not bad cars, it's just that most people who drive them are a-holes.

This was hard to watch. Jeff clearly should have passed this quick look on to someone else, someone who doesnt race with stability assists so they can actually describe the HUGE physics differences between forza 3 and 4. Jeff, forza 3 and 4 feel the same for you because you have the assists on. Im not saying its wrong to play with assists off, just that for a quick look maybe someone who is more experienced should show the game off?

If I can't drive my totally sweet 2003 Toyota Echo, WITH the steel rims and the winter tires for that extra performance BOOST, I don't wanna play. :p

A Challenger is my dream car. They are so, so beautiful.

This. And in terms of power, the Challenger is great. It sounds impressive with the 6.2 L Hemi, but it is heavy so not as good as what the Challenger and Mustang offer.

The fact that Jeff is willing to go to 40k for a car, makes me think he must make a shit load of money for running this site. Thinking about the insurance and the gas guzzler tax and the amount of gas it will use. I bought my 2008 V8 mustang new for 29k and thought it was a big payment to swallow. The insurance was harder.

@Jeff - Why would you get rid of your mustang? It'd probably be cheaper to get parts swapped out and get it painted white.

Watching this video made me realize a couple of things. Damn, despite all the graphical issues with GT5 (shadows/smoke) it still looks a thousand times better than this game. That being said, it did take them forever to make GT5. The other thing I realized was, I don't think either GT5 or Forza do it for me anymore. I love car racing but I think the Simulation racer needs something new. Dirt and a new Grid would have me much more excited at this point. Grid was a fantastic looking game too, especially that smoke.

I had some real problems with the demo. The buttons are all screwed up, so I'd rewind when I wanted to look behind me, the units were locked into imperial, so as a non-American it was all gobbledygook (the outside temperature could have been arctic or boiling... no idea) and there was no way to display car damage or tire wear. There was also an XP popup on the left every time I did something in a race, which was really distracting. I hope this is just a really stupid demo restriction not being able to toggle all this. I felt like I was being actively discouraged from playing.

Forza 4 = to make people buy Kinect. Nothing in the gameplay as changed much. It's all the lame Kinect, it's so dull.
