Do new MOBAs have much of a chance to make progress in this market with so many entrenched games already here?

Loving the art style

Played quite a bit of this when it was in Win10 open beta and it's a really solid game. Hope it does well for them though I feel the MOBA moniker will do some damage despite this being much more action (and not lane/creep) focused.

Is this game capped to 30fps or is it just the video? Seems hard to believe a PC game could come out in 2017 with a 30fps cap.

Looks neat, and seems like they have a few good ideas to avoid being the "same old, same old" in the genre.

the guys should make it a site wide rule, whenever there is a game with a character select screen, you scroll through all the characters FIRST THING.

It really plays nothing like battleborn. Aside from them both having MOBA-lite elements they play and feel very different. And as far as style goes, Gigantic is the clear winner.

Very right indeed. And once you're playing it's very good at explaining itself and quite easy to understand. It's also got a lot of character and charm to go along with that style. The gigantic dragon has some classic Don Bluth vibes to its design. And above all, none of the characters are annoying assholes at all.

Also, the character that seems to be at front and centre for all marketing is Tyto the Swift. Who is interesting for being both disabled (only has one arm) and is also, deliberately or not is identified in game Non-binary (or at least sex unidentified). Its this very subtle bit of character design that speaks to an extreme forward thinking but doesn't shout out loud about the very thing its done.

Also they have a pet ferret, I like ferrets.

I think of it as more of The Old Republic of 2017 because I remember hearing about it when MOBA development didn't seem like a completely horrid idea, but its taken so long that its now coming out during a time where it seems like a horrible idea.

i honestly don't know how @benpack can play (anything) with mouse sensitivity that high. i guess it must work for him but man i'd feel like i was on The Drugs if i pumped my sensitivity up there.

Does this game not have voice chat?

@john-luke: It does have voice chat (was added not long before launch) however the issue is it is either on, or off. There's no push-to-talk which is stupid as hell. I think I read the devs were listening to feedback on that one since a lot of people took issue with it.

Would be super intersting to know platform and price at the start of the QL.

Devs on Reddit said they were looking to push that in the August Update.

Is it generally a shitty thing to mute the fuck out of everyone in a MOBA if I'm not trying to go for ranked play? I could deal with text chat.

I went and downloaded it; looks streamlined and slick enough to at least try it. The tutorial made it seem a bit cumbersome but I feel I'll get it after a while. Nowhere near DOTA 2 levels of esoteric, thankfully.

What does "it runs really well" on Xbox mean? 60FPS? 30FPS without dips?

C'mon Ben, fighting game quick look rules here. Show the whole roster before playing. Character designs look super neat and I'd totally play a single player game in this style.

After playing it for a couple of hours, this game seems like busted shit.

This game is real good. Like, I hate MOBAs and I'm really enjoying it a lot.

@aurens grey hamster man is Pakko, a player character, and he's great.

The way the combat looks makes it hard to follow what's even happening much in the same way as Battleborn.

@superultra:The thing about Paragon is that it has aesthetics and characters that make it seem like an action game, but in reality the gameplay is still the slowly grinding poking of a moba, which to my mind made it less than the sum of its parts. This looks a bit less confused than Paragon about what it wants to be.

I've played a little of it and my biggest gripe is how hard it is to follow the action and understand what your abilities are actually doing. Maybe that's something I'll get used to in time and get a better sense of what is going on, but I had that exact same problem with Battleborn. Nice thing about Overwatch and its super clean look is that making sense of the action is pretty easy. Also, as something that is advertising itself as a hero shooter the shooting doesn't feel the greatest and half the characters are melee focused.

Oh wow this game has actual, interesting character design, something the majority of MOBAs lack. It's rare to see in this space a unique vision and creative space that the world and characters even sit in - instead most seem content to constantly chasing pre-existing niches and tropes to appeal to specific players.

I look forward to checking it out! ^w^

Game looks really fun to me, if not a bit messy/too much going on - hopefully it's a little better without Ben's insane sensitivity settings. I'm gonna give it a try.
