Quick Look: Goat Simulator 2014

Gotes are mammle.

A shallow and buggy Just Cause/ Garry's Mod with a goat. Seems people are easily entertained now-a-days. 1st time in a long time I can remember disagreeing with the GB crew on a game.

@x4n: It seems like the developers might agree with you. I wonder if other game devs get bummed out when a game they put years into, and do the best job possible, is panned by critics and gamers, then something like this comes along and is universally praised.

Shouldn't this just be titled "Quick Look: Goat Simulator" with no 2014 since the actual game is just called Goat Simulator?

That's a great question. I'd imagine that it would really irritate some developers. Look at how artists hated Marcel Duchamp's ready-mades when he showed them at a gallery alongside works that took other artist's years to create. Those artists were so pissed that all he did was take a urinal and write R. Mutt. on it, and then call it art. People actually bought into it, and loved the idea that anything can be considered art.

It's a dumb, funny game that is $10. Why even expect something 'deep' ?

I was thinking this during UPF...

That dance animation is my favorite dance animation in any game in all of time. It's so good.

Well, speaking as a game developer...

Being jealous because of stuff like this is ridiculous. Are they(those artists/game developers) trying to go out there and catch lightning in a bottle like this game, or are they going out there trying to make some amazing classic art or a well-crafted game? They're different things. If they're jealous of this stuff, then they should drop their elaborate project and go chase this stupid stuff; not just huff and puff that society-at-large is too uncultured to appreciate real hard work.

If someone is trying to hit that "fun stupid idea" mark then there's nothing to be jealous of there, either, because someone else merely succeeded in their stead. If they're gonna be a bitter asshole, unable to enjoy anyone's success but their own, then they probably shouldn't be making anything to begin with, and should find find a career that doesn't rustle their jimmies so badly.

Yes and no.

Silly randomness is only funny for so long. It makes a big first impression because you never see it coming, but that's all it's got going for it.

But, if you're the kind of person who enjoys trying to break open world games in funny ways, then this game definitely has what you're looking for.

I don't understand when and how this game got so popular. It seems so stupid. Also I don't like that games put the simulator name on things that are not simulators. This is as arcadey as it gets.

My girlfriend and I were in San Antonio last week for her birthday, so we stopped by the Wildlife Ranch out there. They had a petting barn full of goats. It was smelly but awesome. They were headbutting each other. It was super cool.

With Goat Simulator, I will now be able to bring the goat into my home without the smell. Thank you, Goat Simulator, for making my dreams come true.

I remember when ragdoll physics and models clipping through each other and spazzing out was funny...back in 2004. Sadly, it has been 10 years and I am no longer 12, so this game just looks dumb to me. It makes me lose a little faith in the internet when I see this game on the #1 spot on Steam, but maybe it's just the legions of fedoras and neckbeards showing their support for this T0t4LLY R4NDUM G43M LuL. I just wish they had used the $10 they spent on this game to support a game that developers actually put time and effort into, instead of this exploitative garbage.

The music from this sounds similar to the music use in An Idiot Abroad.

A great game to pass the time, you can have a good laugh.

And ultimately it comes down to personal choice. These people chose to buy this and play it because it appeals to them. Belittling it because there personal choice does not reflect your own views quite clearly shows that your opinion of your self is grossly inflated.

You have no right to impose your own choices on others.

It got popular precisely because of the ridiculousness of the premise.

As for the whole "simulator name on non-simulators" thing, I reckon that's part of the joke. This game seems like it's poking fun at the many "simulator" games that are buggy and act in unrealistic ways.

Because it's possible to get a game that's better at being dumb and funny at the same or close to the same price (like Just Cause 2 and Garry's Mod)?
