This looks gripping, I wonder how many chapters there are? Also I'm curious if that torture really goes on for 20 days, if so that could get really stressful.

$9 on Steam. Pre-ordered. The Ludum Dare version looked rad, but this is just awesome.

It always surprises me that people will take the good or morale route more often then not in games. I LOVE to cause trouble, and usually do the most dickish things possible just to see the result. I like it for the shock value, and do things I wouldnt in real life. Its just surprising that A LOT of people emotionally connect with the game enough to do the morale thing. I would think the baser instincts would come through.

Ok, once is a typo, twice means you actually think it. So, just to help, the word you want is "moral". No 'E'.

"Morale" is something else. :)

This seems interesting but also really repetitive. If you really have to keep doing that for 20 days, that's getting kinda boring. I don't know about this.

Yeah...when I buy this game, first thing is a google search for whether it actually lasts 20 days...and if so, next question is "do I guide some parts of it, or just play it on easy?".

What I wouldn't give for an actual Endurance Run of this game. I wonder how far Vinny could endure.

i really hope that i will never be taken hostage by vinny. He shot a poor old man in the leg, and then let him bleed to death, although a med kit was reachable. Cold Vinny. Ice Cold. :D

I have never and will never enjoy being a dick. I've had friends who like to fuck around and mess things up in co-op situations, and it's always drove me nuts.

Hm, I must be misunderstanding or missing something, but why would you ever provoke? They just seem to always hit you when you do that, wouldn't that time be better used to "think" all the time?

It looks like I might have the same problem with this game as I did with the Ludum Dare version. The fact that it's that hard is interesting, but it just drags on for so very long. I guess maybe that's the point, I just don't think I have the patience.

That ending was hilarious, just not for Jack of course.

Probably gonna give this a shot, even though I agree with people that all the scenarios just seem to drag on for a bit too long.

Tooth-based torture is definitely the worst. I'll take hammer shots to my knees before I take the ol' "rip out teeth with pliers" routine.

Nope.

I think it is pretty well done, and the graphics prevents it from being too ..graphic. But there is a element of something, though perhaps confined in the potential, I am wary of. Depends on the person, does it not?

if done right it's terrific. it can be very artfully used. i also really dig the style of Risk of Rain. it also kind of leaves more to the imagination, which with games like this can be a plus.

Yeah, I liked what I saw of this game up until the torture level. The idea of a turn-based "bad decision simulator" sounds good, but the torture scene, even if it's pixel art, is too much for me.

This game looks great, though I'm a bit wary of the fact that they seemed to have the whole 'charge something up so that you have a better chance of executing a different move' in both of the first two scenarios. It's an interesting mechanic, for sure, but it may keep all of the scenario's feeling very samey, regardless of what is occurring.

No old games ever looked like this, nor played like it. Low-resolution does not necessarily equal retro. In this case, as with a lot of low-res "pixel" games, it's about working within an aesthetic constraint to create something that looks and plays way more interestingly than an Unreal engine cover-based shooter or any number of other "great looking and playing games" that bore the piss out of some of us.

I think pixel art (or other minimal styles) can work well because your imagination can fill in the blanks and can actually work to the game's advantage. In much the same way that a painting can be more visually evocative than a photograph.

Besides which, it's not as simple as choosing between pixel art and photo-realistic visuals. It's not like flipping a switch, you're talking hundreds of thousands if not MILLIONS of dollars for that amount of art generation, and in some cases (the recent Flashback remake), the result is something that looks completely bland and unoriginal.

Granted, I can see how using pixel art can be seen as being the lazy way out. There are other minimal art styles that could achieve the same minimalist feel but still look great.

@john1912: It may surprise you that a lot of people are quite nice, all the way down, not just as a cover for "baser instincts". We are social animals, so our baser instincts include a lot of teamplay and empathy. Also, account for the skew in demographic where people who care about fictional characters are a lot more likely to play games where that is given some relevance.

Are you the type of person that thought Spec Ops: The Line was super disturbing? I've never been able to detach myself from reality enough to be disturbed by a video game, there are a few scenes in movies and videos that genuinely made me feel uneasy or uncomfortable, the ankle breaking scene in Misery for example and there's a video out there of a realistic recreation of civil war surgery that had me queasy.

But video games just can't do that for me, especially not something that looks so far and removed from reality like this.

Personally I just don't like the trial and error sound of the game, that sort of gameplay loop has never appealed to me, I would rather it let me make my decisions and live with them, not give me a game over screen.
