So I think this game really suffered being rushed for the movie release. Its basically an early access of what could be a very good game if they keep working on it for a year or two. I worry the movie people have pulled funds and think its done as is. I would buy this if they really develop it but we will probably have to wait on a sequel.

Dan asked on the beastcast if there is freeplay. Its Isla Nublar that you unlock from getting a 4-star rating on the first map. Theres not any options for it right now and you are stuck with infinite money turned on.

Jeff Goldblum's performance in this game is similar to Eric Roberts' performance as the titular character in A Talking Cat?!?!?! (which is a movie Giant Bomb ABSOLUTELY has to film & forty)

I was hoping this would be more like Operation genesis but it seems like it's way too similar too Planet Coaster in structure with its challenge maps and the lack of trying to make a cool looking park.

Honestly, who is this game for? It seems very hard and slow to build up your park, there is no real customization to the park or dinosaurs, and the real thrill of this game is letting your dinosaurs go berserk in the crowd, which seems like it would set you back terribly.

Seriously though, this looks sooo disappointing. It was gonna be my glorious return to god games after skipping everything since Cities Skylines. Oh well... :P

I played quite a bit of Operation Genesis back in the day and I do fondly remember things like tranqing dinosaurs from helicopters and just letting the dinosaurs loose and watching them eat everything. I don't know if I did that because I was bored of the actual game, or because dinosaurs eating everything. Either way as a recreation of that game, this looks. Bad? I've watched quite a bit of play from Youtubers and I've kind of assumed that it was still in early access. That it's being sold as a full-price game is appalling, especially when it's being sold as a management sim. It's way too shallow to hold the iinterest of anyone that likes management sims.

I guess I am impressed by nicely animated the various dinosaur attacks are, but it's kind of like they knew there was nothing to their game except to watch dinosaurs swallow people.

So can the dinosaurs only eat people? They can't destroy buildings or anything like that? If they can't, that's kind of a bummer...

@curiosus: Yea I ended up refunding on steam after realising there was no non mission mode in it, did have a good first impression though for what I played (first 1hr or so). It being rushed out for the movie makes sense why it doesn't feel complete. Reckon I'll pick up when its more like £20 in a year or 2.

Me, kind of. It's actually not a difficult game at all, but it has its quirks. Once you figure out the few things on the checklist (keep dinosaurs comfortable, give people shopping options) that make a park work, you'll soon be sitting on hundreds of millions on dollars to spend on all the upgrades available. That usually happens around the time you unlock the next island, so it mostly works on its progression.

Unfortunately, Abby is pretty much right about the designing the aesthetic of the island. You have options, but they're pretty limited, and the islands can be claustrophobic. The game isn't really about making your park as much as it is about making a functional park within certain parameters. It's a fine choice, and it creates a system that allows for interesting mission structure that you usually don't get out of these kinds of games. It feels like a challenge mode version of one of those park management games more than a sandbox. But, it feels lacking on the back end because of that. I wish the unlockable sandbox, Isla Nublar, went more in the direction of "here's a giant area to make a park how you'd like" but the infinite money, limited space, and limited cosmetic choices really limit that feeling.

@vinny and @danryckert As for the upgrades on the buildings like reload speed and accuracy, these become downright imperative later in the game when you're trying to manage a larger park and need to quickly tranquilize and move multiple dinosaurs. I've had a couple of frustrating ass raptor breakouts because the speedy little fuckers are hard for the helicopter dude to hit. Also, no there is no upgrade to make fossils automatically excavated, but honestly you should be aiming to hunt for specific dinosaurs to maximize their genome rather than just random bones. The excavating really takes a back seat pretty quickly anyway. Also, a tip, sell fossils and rocks early on to help make money at first.

Anyway, I think I'm like 15 or 20 hours deep in this thing. It's on the perfect line of management and mindlessness for me that I can really tune out and get into it for hours. If anybody has questions about it, or is on the fence, I'm happy to answer or help!

I know this is sounds like a cliché at this point, but I would definitely play this if it were ported to Switch.
