I really like this game, but I hope they'll add in more characters at some point.

I honestly don't think the graphics look polished enough. They still look a bit too "Flash".

@steveurkel: When people are showing a game, It's good to have someone "play dumb" and ask questions about it for the people it's being presented to.

I find it ironic that they love this, but trash talk Super Smash Bros so much.

Edit: I feel like this came off more negative than I meant it to. I think this game looks awesome, and I'm not hating on Jeff, I just thought it was funny.

As a guess, the problem Jeff has with Smash Bros is probably due to how much certain people get way too into it. I would guess Jeff feels about Smash Bros the way he feels about Dota.

I like Smash Bros well enough, but when Brawl came out and certain people were unhappy that it wasn't the same as Melee, and then double down on Melee until it's some kind of split-second ultra-serious competitive thing. For me Smash Bros was always a fun, fairly-casual, chaotic multiplayer game, but it's spawned a competitive community that's incredibly intense and rather unfriendly to newcomers. Jeff seems to be a mostly single-player guy these days, and Smash Bros isn't all that interesting as a single-player game, and kind of alienating as a multiplayer prospect.

It's like when I first played much of Counterstrike, I was playing Source, and people were calling weapons by names that Counterstrike hadn't officially used for years, in many cases names that were only used before these players started playing, because that's just what you do. And as soon as you don't use those names, you use the actual in-game names of the weapons, they know you're a noob, and it's hunting season. And then every time there was any kind of a balance change it's like "THEY'VE RUINED IT!". And even now there are people who swear by 1.6, or whatever earlier Counterstrike version was their Counterstrike. And all of these people seem incredibly hateful and unpleasant to the point that you wonder where the fun is.

And as a result of these experiences I now hate almost all competitive shooters outside of Team Fortress (which has had its own share of community toxicity), and I kind of roll my eyes when people talk about that stuff like it matters. I guess it does matter, to them, but maybe too much, you know.

TLDR: People who are really into Smash Bros make it really hard for the rest of us to be into Smash Bros.

At first glance, I thought I was going to be thoroughly underwhelmed by this, but surprisingly enough, it looks pretty fun. Unfortunately, it's way overpriced. Fourteen dollars seems really steep for a game that is, essentially, a one trick pony. This seems more like it should be an XBLA indie game selling for 3 bucks. That's not to say it doesn't look fun, but without friends to play with regularly, I can't imagine it being worth that much. This game looks like it was made for steam sales. If it goes down to a few bucks, I'll seriously consider picking it up. As it is right now, I'll pass.

Is it just me, or does this game appear to take place in the Jet Grind/Set Radio universe?

@quantical:

I like this game and it looks nice, but there are certainly some key areas of improvement that would make it look pro.

The backgrounds while being nice are a bit flat and with not that many stages to choose from, it leaves something to be desired Not to mention that could be a design addition to have some stages be a little different from each other, as they are all essentially the same.

The character poses are solid and I like the designs even if they are simplistic, which is fine. The portraits particularly bother me as they need more character to them, they look like generic screen caps of the models and don't do the personalities justice.

As for the UI, specifically the boombox animation, could use a little more movement and energy to fit with the vibe of the game, right now, it's a bit stiff and underwhelming.

Hopefully it sells well enough for a sequel with some added mechanics and more refined art style.

The fast, snappy pace to this is what I'm probably most drawn in by- that's always what I like best in these kind of party battle games.

Definitely want to play this myself.

When the ball starts going at really high speeds it really feels like the game becomes a crapshoot. It just seemed like they were just hammering on the hit button and hoping for the best. That's most likely fun(ny) at first, but I can see that becoming frustrating quickly.

The game seems like a neat idea, but I'm not really liking what I'm seeing.

Really wish this was a three or four person quick look like Mount Your Friends was. The hell were Brad and Drew up to that they couldn't jump in on this for twenty minutes?

They never discovered parrying (bunt while in hitlag, stun anyone trying to follow up your shot) and didn't have the time to learn the character's hit angles (though Jeff did notice something was up). Shot charging is also important as it drastically cuts hitlag, but of course you have to predict the ball's movement and the other player has to not hit the ball again (also seen: Sonata's ball control special). Jeff mentioned the hitlag meter but they never really made use of it.

Not to mention each character's varied movement, Raptor's wall jumps, Sonata's double jump, Candyman's tall jump, Switch's wall/ceiling ride, and Latch's wall crawl/grabbing.

Also, my favorite webm to arise from this game so far...

Have to agree with Jeff - that one song in the lash version of the game was soo good, though it was basically a one minute loop. It seems to me though that the AI was better in the prototype, or maybe it just become increasingly hard now? That was something they didn't need to consider then.

There are some good additions since that prototype was made, and I like the outcome.

The song they like, during the first versus match, is actually from the "Corporate Lifestyle Simulator" soundtrack, which they played on UPF a while back, and they liked it then, too.

It's a terrific soundtrack, and y'all should check it out. The track in question is called "Scream" and the album is called "Zombies" from bignic.

Oh, thank you! Couldn't tell where I had first heard it or if it was just similiar to some other song. Corporate Lifestyle Simulator (though when I first played it, 'twas just Zombies) had a really great soundtrack in general.
