Quick Look: LittleBigPlanet Karting Beta

That FPS level was crazy.

Jeff I was sick of LBP's cuteness after five minutes of the first game.

This being a shameless copy cat....of a copy cat makes it even worse.

I believe the natural progression of this could be that either Sucker Punch or Volition team up with Media Molecule and we get a Little Big Open-World Game creator.

ModNation and this game both are lacking something, i'm not sure what but the tracks or background just aren't exciting. I'ts not the layout of the tracks it's the setting it isn't crazy enough like a Mario Kart, so the game just looks boring.

With him and Anamanaguchi this game looks kind of cool, although I am a little bit bored of the visual style of Little Big Planet games...I haven't even played them that much :S

They're totally right, the British Guy drains all the momentum out of these games. It was cute for like half a level in the first game, but now they're just frontloading all the LBP games with so much tedium.

"Not to say this game is ModNation with a new coat of paint"...except for the fact that it pretty much is. Not that I have a problem with that, ModNation was a hell of a game.

WHA... I thought this was a VITA game until the controller popped on screen. Also fuck everybody who can't appreciate Stephen Fry's amazing voice.

The way Jeff was "flying" that "helicopter" at the end made me want to vomit.

I think it's the handling and the fact the weapons don't have any "punch". I don't think I ever played a non-mario kart racer that has gotten these right so they tend to be boring imo. A kart racer that was actually fun to play and had a bunch of user created stuff would be pretty cool.

Man, I wonder if the Amazon servers are overloaded or something. HTML5 player is halting mid stream.

Other than that, could be good? I enjoyed Mod Nation Racers a bit. I just suck at making stuff.

Yeh the whole thing of having to always point out or mock or dismiss anything that is remotely British in any game they ever QL got annoying years ago and they still do it everytime.

That's what this game needs! Stephen Fry AND Alan Davis.

Seriously though people should be complaining about the writing not Stephen Fry, It's a crime that he hasn't been knighted yet.

So let me get this straight. LittleBigPlanet comes out. Out of that we get ModNation Racers, which unquestionably existed to capitalize off the community, DIY-driven ethos of LBP, only replace the charm with obnoxious, terrible design. Now a LBP kart racing game comes out and it's a MNR ripoff? I don't even know anymore, man.

I guess I can understand some disdain for this series' tone, but I'll take it. Everyone complains about brown/grey military shooters and the like, but then a trio of games come around with an unabashedly cute aesthetic and now that's the worst thing? Eh. I'll take LBP's brand of childlike naïveté and imagination for sure. You can't have one of those games without it, so they shouldn't be dropping it.

Or it's for both crowds? You could say the same for Pixar movies. Not a fan of that kind of argument.

I dunno, He's pretty big in Liverpool. I hear that he's also known in Edinburgh and Newcastle too.

I both feel his pain and see your point and solve it by caring less. It'd be cool to see more Well known English "celebs" make appearances in games, Jonathon Ross, Noel Fielding, Russel Brand are all rather big personalities but Simon Pegg, Bill Bailey, any number of British TV personalities really, would be good choices also.

This suddenly turned into flight club in the last minutes.

I loved the original LBP, and this looks very much like LBP in cart form. I'm mildly interested.

@adam1808: Yea it did but it sounded a little different. It's certainly a lot slower but there are some horns in there too.

Getting a serious "Winnie-the-Pooh" vibe from this game's intro..

+1 defence of Stephen Fry being awesome, though I will concede that I've never really been a fan of the overly cutesy dialogue the LittleBigPlanets foist on him.

Modnation Racers was amazing, and no one paid attention to it:( Sure the load times were ridiculous, especially for a first party game, but the game was truly amazing. And the community as second-to-none. I'm glad it's getting a spiritual succssor here, even if I much prefer to the Mods and art style of MNR to Littlebigplanet. I mean, this is dour. LBP is desaturated, and...too cardboardy. What kid is into arts & crafts? That's grandma stuff. The MNR aesthetic - the vinyl toy stuff, and colorful urban art - was awesome, fun, fresh and exciting.

Still, United Front is making another cart racer, and this is the first one since Diddy Kong Racing where you can make arena games - also there's a grappling hook! - so I'm probably going to buy it!

Although Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed will be killer too. Sumo Digital and Sega can make a badass cart racer too.

Why did Jeff drift his way through the tutorial, and then NEVER DRIFT AGAIN? Man, that was weird and frustrating to watch.

Can you guys look at Square-Enix's Game Globe sometime? It's for PC, and it seems to be LBP-like in that it allows you to make your own levels and games. Except it is a Unity(?) browser based thing, so you can send levels to your friends anytime and they can play them, so long as they have a computer. Also, it's a fully 3D character action/platformer game...although like LBP, the beta users have already hacked it to do stuff like space combat.

It's designed by Big Point, who I think did stuff for Microsoft and the Kinect before tackling this ambitious project.
