I need to play through Resident Evil, i have never played through any of them and I kinda feel like Drew when he was talking about his reasons for playing metal gear solid, it's a landmark game and this seems like a solid version to experience.

According to Eurogamer the Xbox One version is equivalent to the PC on low. :/

I don't get how this doesn't run at 60 fps on the consoles.

I cannot believe this does not run at 60FPS on consoles. I mean, it's not a huge deal since most of the game is just pre-rendered backgrounds with no camera movement, but still. Come on.

I never played the remake. In fact I didn't even know it existed until a few years ago. I think RE without the corny acting and FMV intro really lacks the charm.

I wonder if they even need to do the door opening animation anymore, or if that's just there to replicate the original

Drew continues to surprise me by the amount of games he's managed to miss out on. Sometimes it seems like all he's played are simulators and halo, lol.

RE5 is a really good action game. It's not a good horror game, but it's not trying to be. It's RE6 that turns to shit.

Would love Drew to go through this game/series if he has time in between Metal Gear Scanlons. But then again... this has an even crazier storyline than MGS at times

I don't really know why anyone who has a PC capable of running the game on high or whatever would be buying it on a console, but okay. I don't have a good PC, I'll be buying it on my PS4, is that allowed?

Maybe I am being old and grumpy, but I was hoping this QL to show the two guys going through several puzzles for more entertainment than education since Resident Evil is well known.(Like Metal Gear) Not a running around aimlessly and complaining about the inventory for eleven of the eighteen minutes.

Not to sound like a dick but Dan seems to kinda miss the point of this game, the limited inventory/ammo, the way it controls, the limited saves are all very much an intentional part of the game design. The whole point is to create tension through the limitations put upon you and forcing you to make tough decisions about saving now/later, what route you take, what items you choose to bring along etc.

It's also not possible to completely screw yourself over, since the entire game can be beaten with just the knife.

A shame that they are not that into it or seem just indifferent. This (or RE2) was probably the peak of the series for me (and then RE4 ruined EVERYTHING). Hope it sells well enough to get more of old-school Resi.

As someone who never had a GameCube and who never got very far in the classic RE games, I'm definitely going to give this a shot. The atmosphere in REmake and REmake HD: ReREmake is absolutely incredible, and I've always wanted to dive into it for myself.

I still need to finish the Gamecube version. Got to some weird creature that chases you down.

@amyggen: The only way RE5 was even remotely tolerable for me was playing it in local co-op. And that's mostly because nearly every game is tolerable in local co-op.

@meatball: It really doesn't need a great PC to run well. So make absolutely sure you won't be able to run it first.

For me a good action game has to feel good to play and have good action. RE5 excels at neither, tank controls and weak ass shooting.

The article contains some consternation as to why the consoles are downgraded, as even a lower specced PC (with a 7790?) can handle everything at high. Then there are the frame pacing issues on the ps4...

Dan, don't carry the ink ribbons with you all the time. Leave them in your safe room box to free up a space on in your inventory. You're really only going to see typewriters in the same room as your overall inventory.

Why is Dan running around with the gem, emblem and ink ribbons? He's clearly just wasting space. Don't run around with items when you don't know where they go, store them until you find it. Also, why carry ink ribbons when you only need them for typewriters, which are literally always in the same room as a storage chest?

I just don't get it. If I had no trouble with this game when I was 6, Dan should be fine.

I am unafraid to say that I ship Dan x Drew. My favourite QL/podcast/hoodslam tag team.

The moment I saw Dan do a loop-dee-loop around the zombie at the bottom of the stairs, I knew the new control scheme breaks the game.

Reminds me of the Metro quick look. Why quick look the game if you spend half the time blasting the inventory system? Drew should have been playing. At least he never played it before.

I forgot how striking the art style of this REmake was. It still looks really good! And the new control scheme makes it even more appealing to me.

I'm with Dan... 4 is probably my favorite.

I actually didn't really get on board with the series until 4 and that was actually the game that got me into collecting video games. I didn't enjoy 1-3 when they came out because it felt like they had too many puzzles and too little shooting, but now I appreciate them more.

I still prefer 4-6 over 1-3 though... 6 is a incredibly misunderstood game.

Really bummed about how short some of the quick looks have been lately. I could have watched Dan and Drew play this for at least another 10 or 20 minutes.

I really liked RE5 and I thought the shooting felt really good. It was moving away from the horror elements but then again so was RE4 - and by horror elements I generally mean to say "bullshit game design."

Damn, I had really been hoping Brad would cover this.

Ahhh, the age-old divide among the Resident Evil 1-3 die-hard fans and the Resident Evil 4+ New World Order. ;)

For the record, I'm in the 4/5 (also Revelations) camp. The controls in 1-3 were so comically horrible that I could never get into those games, as much as I liked the potential of the setting. Now that the REmake Remaster Super-Duper CHerry-On-Top Edition did away with the "tank" controls, I may give it a shot.

EDIT: Also -- hey, Capcom; the whole purpose of tight shirts is so that your boobs DON'T bounce all over the place like two wrestling badgers! You can't have it both ways!
