Quick Look: Saints Row IV

Yes, Female 1 is excellent.

Man, for a game with so much shit going on it looks really boring.

I just can never get into any Saints Row game, I just don't find them fun nor funny.

The patented Nolan North yell completely separates them.

The lack of environmental destruction is a real bummer (as is the lack of a 'Hispanic male voice' option).

So I guess I need to be the one to ask the hard hitting questions here, but when the hell did they transition to the PC! One second they were in the xbox version, the next in the PC pause menu with almost not break or cut point in the audio/video. That is some damn fine editing there!

I have trouble telling them apart. Can add Matthew Mercer to that list as well. I've been playing Tales of Xillia and was trying to figure out whether it was North or Baker playing Alvin, and it turns out it's neither, but that guy instead.

Everyone does. But they basically say: if you can't play this on PC, don't bother playing it at all.

I'm skeptical about that statement. They said something similar about Far Cry 3. Not saying they are lying, but I'm not sure I take their word for it.

I'm just gonna say it: This game looks boring as shit. The superpowers render just about everything else (vehicles, weapons etc.) completely pointless. The whole thing seems like the easiest of easy modes. Get into a fight? Shoot fireballs from your hands, throw a few vehicles with your mind and then fly away completely unscathed.

There's a reason Superman is the world's most boring superhero...

Far Cry 3 is fine on Xbox 360. Really.

Hmm, still looks disappointing personally, especially as the successor to Saint's Row The Third. It always seemed weird to turn a DLC into a standalone game, let alone have it be the next installment in the numbered series.

Still, it could potentially be some dumb fun - but it's a tough sell when so many AAA games go on sale for next to nothing so often.

I'm pretty sure you'd be able to kill Wardens with the mech suit on. I think in SR3 you'd normally have to QTE kill the big brutes but if you shot them with enough firepower they just died regularly

Nope. Atleast, it wasn't in the initiation station demo.

Gameplay looks a bit boring so far, so I hope the story is funny at least.

This game looks a LOT like Prototype, from those big monster things to just getting around. I would've given Prototype a 6.5/10... I hope this game is a lot better.

How much Bonnie Tyler is in SR4? The finale of SR3 with you saving your friends while "Hero" was looping in the background was one of the funniest, finest, and most satisfying moments in gaming. Strap it on.

The allure of Saints Row The Third was never the difficulty - it was the characters, writing, and sheer occasional lunacy of what you were doing. I'll even go further, and say SR3 was easy as fuck. Get the health upgrades, and dual pistols with exploding bullets, and it's ez-mode from there on out.

I'd also point out that the ability to shoot fireballs doesn't automatically mean the combat is easy - they can make enemy types to compensate for new attack abilities. And freezing ships, then watching them crash and explode, seems fun.

I actually agree with the people who said this wasn't the best QL of SR4, but I think it has more to do with the fact that they spent most of it just sort of running and fucking around, followed by one narrative-light mission, followed by more fucking around. And even that one mission had a few moments that made me chuckle ("55 minutes?!", "FUKFUKFUKFUKFUKFUKFUKFUK")

If this game is essentially Prototype/inFAMOUS-style combat and traversal, mixed with Saints Row writing and characters, count me the fuck in.

I think people have made way too much out of the "this started as DLC" thing. First off, we have no clue how far they got into those plans before deciding to make a full game instead. Secondly, we have no idea how limited in scope the DLC (it was actually an "expansion", not just DLC) was going to be, versus what SR4 ended up being.

Aside from it taking place in the same city as SR3, and similar visuals, I don't even see how the DLC-origins are obvious. And as long as it's fun and well-written, I couldn't care less how it was initially conceived.

well i done gone and gave in to hype again. bought it a few hours before it unlocked on steam to still get the pre-order discount.

Dunno, that didn't really click with me. The matrix metaphor and the aliens ... meh. Will still play it some day though, but I am happy to have gotten Europa Universalis 4 first.

If you liked SR3, you're probably doing yourself a disservice if you don't play this at some point at least. Just saying.

I loved SR3 and my muscle bound, thong and titty tassel wearing female character. This one looks like a Crackdown knockoff with no basis in reality. I know SR3 was a bit far fetched, but this quick look made me not even want to touch it (flying like Superman??? wtf). Maybe I'll take a look when Amazon has it for real cheap.

yeah... the 360 version is slow as pooo.. my brother got it on that.. then i made him cry (not really) by showing it to him at 4k on the PC :)

this is incredible - I could have cared less for any of the previous SR games including 3, but this looks amazing.

Console version runs fine. I played through the whole game on 360 and had no major issues at all. Dunno what these guys are complaining about.

I wonder if it's a thing with the age of the particular console or something (worn out fans or whatever). I played Far Cry 3 on PS3 without any issues whatsoever either, obviously not as crisp looking as the PC version, but the framerate was stable and all. What they showed of the 360 version here didn't look enjoyable, but it does sound like they have a lot of issues with the 360 they capture from, with that weird Brothers bug during that quick look, and didn't they mention the entire machine crashes if they try to enter the Avatar Items screen, so I think it's entirely possible that other people playing the console versions may not encounter issues of this magnitude?

I think you may be right. Far Cry 3 was barely playable for me on 360, as someone who doesn't care much about framerates. It gave me a headache, seemed to be running at about 20 fps max.

I have the PS3 version, and while the frame rate isn't PERFECT, it's nowhere near as bad as to dismiss the game outright.

PC elitism will never, ever die. But you know what we have that they don't? The ability to play our games without phoning home.

No offence to Jeff, I am almost done with the game, and so far there was only one instance on my 360 where the framerate stuttered badly. I think playing on console is perfectly fine, and I am loving it.
