  • Modern military weapons?
  • Ironsights/reddot?
  • Slow move speed?

This isn't serious Sam that I know or like. Is it trying to get closer to CoD?

Honestly I though that the weapon with a red dot was a joke at the start of the game commenting on modern shooters and was expecting him to get a real gun at some point. Then I realized they were serious...

How dare they make shooting more accurate and modernize the series to appeal to new people.

You do realize that it's possible to make guns as accurate as the developers want in a video game without need for iron-sights right?

Just with the previous Serious Sam games, I don't think I care about this game. I can't find anything to like in it's core gameplay.

@m0nk3y80y: There's always something fun about putting on your favorite music, muting the in-game music, and slaying endless enemies that I've always loved about SS. But I love the Doom nostalgia. That's why I'm a fan of SS.

Remember the bouncy room from Serious Sam: The Second Encounter? That game and its predecessor were mind boggling in there ability to take such a simple gameplay format (run, shoot, circle strafe) and introduce scenario after scenario which forces the player to rethink their approach. Sure their was a lot of repetition, but when the designers amped things up they did it in the most amazing ways.

I appreciate that games like this exist, but I don't really have any interest in actually playing it.

I'm a bit disappointed with what I've seen of SS3 here.

They're turning Serious Sam into COD!

Sprinting? Possibly useful.

Ironsights? Not neeeded.

But the worst thing I saw in this video? Reloading.
Only the pistol should need to be reloaded. That's how Serious Sam rolls.

Ironsights and sprinting in Serious Sam. Now I've seen it all. Also, the whole first level felt like its been made a bit more to make fun of Modern Warfare rather than sticking with Quake/Doom when it comes to the look of it combined with the ironsight assault rifle. Sam sticking with the times I guess

Also, if my memory and/or ears dosen't decieve me the grunting noise when you get hurt sounds an awful lot like the grunting noise from one of the Quake games. Might be Quake 1 or 2. But it also might actually be the grunting from Serious Sam. Now that I think about it it's probably actually my nostalgia playing tricks on me. Serious Sam 1 is pretty old aswell by now and it's been a while since I played any of the above games.

When I saw the modern rail-system equiped assault rifle, sprinting and ADS, I smiled thinking it was a "Duty Calls"-esque joke but... it seems they are serious. If you see a pun in there, don't blame me.

@The_Nubster: If you've ever played a Serious Sam game you'd realize that being accurate isn't really something you... 'do'.

Holding down fire while running around and jumping with sixteen other dudes is the reason people play these dumb games. Who needs iron sights for that?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that maybe they're pulling a Matt Hazard and this particular area is a parody of modern military games, and that there will be similar areas/chapters doing something similar with other genres of FPS games.

I loved all but Serious Sam 2 and hope this is a return to form but with a little something in surprise.

Too much hate on an early, unfinished preview, reactions like this will ensure that we don't get early looks at stuff like this in the future.

Brad may not have played especially well (which is to say, he didn't play "properly" - he'd be fine once he understood how to roll with the pacing of SS's combat and how to prioritize weapon usage and such), but I've played enough Serious Sam to have a clear sense for how this would play for me, and it just looks fantastic.

Not really digging the idea of the machine gun having a reload, but whatever.  In terms of the actual gameplay, it looks true to its roots while also being more intense and high-octane in some ways.  I love how the mancubus ripoffs actually have mancubus-esque shooting AI, so their projectiles aren't especially predictable on top of being really fast.  They seem like they could be a nice challenge if you get enough of them firing at you while dealing with other enemies.

Can't wait to play this.

Is it me or does Brad fucking suck at (playing) this game? Although in fairness, the gameplay seems...different, compared to the earlier Serious stuff.

Hmmn...unsure as to what to think of this. First level looked a bit messy, but the second one already reminded me of ye olde Serious Sam. Ironsight(s) didn't bother me, it was used only in the machine gun, right? And even with that you don't *have to* use it. Modernized guns...eh, wasn't it only the revolver and thompson that were non-modern seeming guns in the first game? Thompson I wouldn't mind using again, but couldn't care less otherwise. Bunnyhoppin and spewing out rockets is something I'd like to see in this, naturally.

Technically...well, it *is* unfinished, but I just have to wonder how much they can polish it in a less than 1.5 months before the release? 'course it could be a lot of time to work with, I'm no expert...looking forwards to the final release in any case!

I played and loved the original, so it's nice to see the series getting some love. It looks (rightfully) hard as shit, though.

Serious Sam serious difficulty endurance run please.

I gotta be honest that looked cooler than I was expecting, my initial thought from viewing videos and screenshots was "man those environments look like ass", but that was some nice chaos... amid the bad environments.

See how bad we have become at classic FPS play thanks to modern FPS games being linear cut-scene-filled coddles.

What the fuck? Who needs aiming down the sights in a Serious Sam game? I hope that is some type of parody or comedic thing going on. And sprinting? You need to be running...ALL THE TIME!

Ironsights, reloading, and sprinting still don't feel "right" to me in Serious Sam. Just reloading by itself completely changes the feel. And running and not being able to gun at the same time?

Sam moves fast even when not sprinting, it's more for just getaway and traversing large environments.

Reloading weapons besides revolvers makes the tempo of the game different, hopefully in a positive way.

I just hope they don't penalize you for not using iron sights, if you can't snipe dudes with a tommy gun from the hip.. something's gone wrong. I have my hopes up but not enough to pre-order.

I reeeeeeally don't care that they added reloading or sprinting. If anything, the reloading will force you to think on your toes about how much is left in your clip, help counter that weird almost tedious feeling that used to pop up when you were just hosing a big guy down with the tommy gun for upwards of five seconds. If you guys want old school always-be-blasting-don't-stop-for-nothing gameplay, Painkiller is still a valid option.

The models they've got in this look really sharp, and I'm guessing those at least are near-final since they were all that announcement trailer focused on.
