Another game I need to buy that I'll have no time to play. Steam sale!!

I actually got this when I was really young in just a big third-party collection of PC games. Played it before I knew about Commandos or Desperados.

When I finally found out about those it was weird. Despite everyone saying that both of those series were superior to the weird-ass one-off Robin Hood game, I had played so much of it (as only a kid with lots of time and scant games can) that all the little differences really grated, and it took until like, this year for me to really get into the Commandos series.

That game also had a bunch of really weird ideas added to the Commandos formula. Weird real time, mouse-controlled melee combat system, building up a forest base, a crazy morality layer, and a really weirdly great late-game war mechanic.

I really do highly recommend anyone who digs this game goes back and checks it out! It's on steam, usually pretty cheap with regular sales!

EDIT: Just jumped in and the game is great, much better with Japanese voices. Also the gamepad control scheme is fantastic (at least in the early goings) I much prefer direct control of characters rather than mouse click to move so I might stick with it.

This is a fantastic game. Anyone interested by it really shouldn't hesitate to pick it up! Glad it got a QL!

I hold Commandos dear to my heart, probably the most international Spanish video game of all time.

@rorie: Yeah, I definitely see that. Unless you had Vinny & Co doing silly voices for all the material read, that might end up being a fairly dull quick-look. Best of luck, though!

The big guy really sounds like Juggernaut from Dota 2.

@rorie: I second this! I've been teetering on the edge of buying Torment and (as someone who liked but wasn't in love with, as so much of the internet is, the first game) I'd fancy your opinion. It looks like a Rorie-ass game.

Also, shout outs to modern games that provide demos on PC. Thought 40€ might be a bit steep, but after playing the demo I decided to go ahead and grab it.

Great Quick Look as usual, Rorie. Playing and talking couldn't of been easy here, and Rorie nailed it. I was looking at this game on Steam when it came out. I thought it looked neat, but I wasn't sold on it until seeing it in motion here.

@rorie: Thanks for doing a QL of this! I had been eying it for a bit, but was unsure. After watching you play it for a while, I decided to pull the trigger last night and buy it. Played through the first mission (which took me over an hour :S) and had a blast. This game is super fun, even with how harsh it can be at times.
