HeartGold/Soulsilver still informs me every fuckin' turn  that my pokemon is asleep or that its raining. That shit is unforgivable in 2010, most time in pokemon is spent reading:

I totally agree with you and it's definitely a pain in the ass and totally unnecessary and unacceptable. However, we must keep in mind that those games are designed for children, so you know, they make it extra obvious and abnoxious. Cause you know... kids lol

@Wiseman4545:  Fair dues, I'll give you that. This quick look wasn't the best example of what the game really is. 
 
If, when it comes out over here, it gets good reviews, I might give it a shot.

@mutha3: I'm gonna assume that you don't have a lot of patience then. This is just a way how some games deal with things.  
 
Trust me, if you play any form of tabletop RPG, especially stuff like 4e Dungeons and Dragons, telling people explicitly what is going on is EXTREMELY important. I can't count how many times somebody's character died because they weren't notified of certain prevailing conditions or bothered to even ask. 
 
This doesn't necessarily translate to the electronic medium, I know, but sometimes, you gotta learn to enjoy not knowing about certain things and knowing about others. I personally never tell my players how much damage they dealt, because it means I have to imagine it up and describe it, or otherwise let them imagine it for themselves. Y'know, imagination. That thing we used to depend on for entertainment, and is the basis of entertainment. 
 
In short, off topic rant that doesn't address your concerns at all, no offenses intended, I think I'm half drunk. 
 
EDIT: Fast text scrolling is in the options menu. Use it. It helps immensely.

The problem is not the information that is being conveyed, but how its conveyed.
 
I don't need to know my pokemon is fast asleep I can see that in the bottom right part of the screen.
 
I don't need to know its raining every turn, you can tell me when its stops.
 
I don't need to know I just selected the option for tackle, I'm not retarted. 
 
What I DO need to know is the enemy's strengths and weaknesses
 
What I DO need to know is how much Hitpoints my attack took off.
  
This type of stuff can easily be streamlined and still retain the exact same amount of information(if not more) withouth me having to wait 40 seconds. Also, outside of competitive play, pokemon does not merit any sort of tactical prowess. The system is pretty damn simple.

The game itself doesn't really appeal to me. Sad, cause I usually love SMT games, but this one just doesn't do it for me.
 
 
That said, I'd totally watch an Endurance Run of this. Jeff and Vinny make it work.

Just got this game on sale, thinking I wouldn't like it very much. Played it for 5 hours straight! There's much more to the gameplay, story, and setting than what it shown here. Now I'm anxious to try Devil Survivor too.
