Quick Look: Sniper Elite III

It's like the editor's note in a magazine, you gotta be careful, or else it might end up just being a 3-man quick-look where one guy sounds kinda crappy.

Dan fit in well, love this combo already. I like his energy and general upbeat personality, something that was kinda missing when Vinny moved out. Jeff also seemed more energetic than usual, I'm sure he's excited he finally got to hire some people and Giantbomb is expanding. And Dan giving Jeff funny suggestions of what to do is perfect. Dat butt-tumblr shot. Dan is right, Jeff's accents are so terrible, so terrible they're great though.

That xray sniping was actually kind of awesome though the rest of the game doesn't interest me. Can't wait to see more from the new crew. "Oh my god"

I'm with Jeff in that I really don't like sniping in games, especially not in multiplayer (with the single exception being the great Black Hawk Down), but this seems like it could be really fun. I think I'll probably get it, once it's 20 bucks or so.

Also it's great that next to Japanese expert Brad, we now have history expert Dan too. Good times. (Just not in the weird alternate reality, in which Africa was involved in WWII. Yeah.)

Dan seems totally fine but what bothers me is the fact these dudes cover games as a job, a living and it seems despite what they said at the beginning that this is their introduction to the sniper eilte franchise.

In the American school system specifically its not heavily covered now, let alone when Dan went to school. Sometimes when people have been away from the world of education for a while they don't remember a lot of the things they learned.

If you guys are upset that Dan has a minor in History and doesn't know about the African front in WW2. You should also know that he's a major in Film and has never seen The Godfather.

For anyone curious about the North Africa campaign starting from the U.S. and Allied landings during Operation Torch, I'd really recommend the book "An Army at Dawn" by Rick Atkinson. It details how the African campaign transformed the U.S. Army from a green, fairly incompetent military force into a veteran army that was actually ready to invade Europe. (The book also doesn't stint in describing the British and French roles.)

I feel the same. Everyone seems to be loving Dan but I found this QL to be beyond boring. The Africa/WWII thing was just...shameful.

Where the hell did you go to Elementary school? I think all I learned about WWII in Elementary school was that the world was involved and that the US "won". I didn't know Africa was even involved in WWII until I took an African History course in college.

Edit: Since I asked you I guess I should say I went to elementary school in Texas (and that might have something to do with it.)

This quick look was fantastic. Jeff was on point and excited and Dan kept the conversation going and brought a lot to the table. Really, really enjoyed this one guys.

I didn't say I necessarily learned it in elementary school only that one should have a certain level of knowledge of world events by them time they leave elementary school by reading books like encyclopedias (there was no internet when I was in school) or watching historical films etc. School is not sole place to gain knowledge nor should it be.

In the fifth grade I wrote a research paper on Japan's involvement in WWII. If you do any reading, research etc about WWII it's not hard to discover that battles were going on in Africa.

I just think, and so do many commenters as well as Drew, that it's incredible that a grown man could not know about it. Having said that I wouldn't have given it a second thought though if he hadn't shared that he minored in history.

And by the way, I'm a Texan.
