Quick Look: Spintires

Got this game on GMG today for 22 bucks after some coupon code, its super fun but i keep getting lost and up up a mountain or in a river, cant wait to hopefully master it! This reminds me of watching Long Way Round.

I never thought I'd see a video game with such convincing muddy road physics, let alone see that as the focus of a game. I'm especially surprised at how excited I am to play such a game. Sure, there's constant frustration of getting stuck, but then there's the constant reward of getting out of those sticky situations with some creative thinking.

Between my interest in this and my time with Euro Truck 2, I should probably just be driving trucks on the other side of the world for a living.

This game is actually really fun. It can get tense if you've literally spent hours trying to coax a long trailer through a river of mud and get stuck.

What you need to do when playing it is scout ahead and NOT TRY TO DRIVE WITH THE PARKING BREAK! =P Scouting out the map first is a good thing. Use the six wheeled trucks and put big tires on and they can tackle most anything. You need to reach the center of the cloaking to remove them.

You CAN drive and winch. You just need to exit Advanced mode to regain control of the vehicle.If you tow a vehicle you can change the winch key to control the accelerator of the towed vehicle which is nice. Also you can steer left, right or auto to follow your lead.

The top right gear is an automatic drive gear.The others are 1, R and 1+ which is slightly higher than 1 but can still use Diff Lock in Hardcore.

Also there seems to be an issue with the game volume going down so you need to turn it up in settings again.

Find the Jeff Drew combo a little awkward/boring, though there was some moments of laughs, too each his own I guess. Miss Vinny for a game like this, he'd break the shit out of it laughing the whole time.

The twist is that this game takes place in the Bermuda Triangle. Nobody ever reaches the first objective.

This website is all about dumb stuff, but this video might be hall of fame material.

Is there even any game audio in this Quick Look? It's been quiet before... but this is just a whole different deal. Really wanted to hear that truck start up, as stupid as that sounds.

I really like the physics in this game. Water and mud looks very nice. Also the way trees and grass moves looks cool. I would make my own challenges in that game like, can I drive over there etc. I'll definitely check it out later.

I like how Giantbomb makes quick looks of these weirder games too. I probably wouldn't have heard about this game otherwise.

Finally!! I have been waiting for this quick look since the steam release! :D

Had no idea what this was, even with that considered, I understood so much more of this than they did. But hey, made a pretty fun QL! I might get this, love the concept.

This actually was better than I expected, usually these sims just look like the most boring thing in the world to me.

This game is glorious. I finally managed to finish The River on Hardcore, and this game is as intense as anything I've played recently. You're constantly assailed by enemies in the form of your environment. Are you going to drive through that mud puddle and suffer crippling status effects, or over that hill covered in rocks and hope to swallow/evade all of that burst DPS? See that little divet in the road? That's a snare trap, avoid it. That thin belt of woods to your left, that's a side quest leading to a piece of epic loot (Type-E), that will let you blow through the rest of the game, or past an especially difficult battle (I ain't driving through that lake). Your damage is your hitpoints, your fuel your mana, all-wheel-drive your defensive buff, diff lock your limit break, and the winch is your phoenix down.

This is just the worst quick look. The game is completely muted. Nobody knows even remotely what they are doing.

Why even bother.

This looks like it was made in Alan Wake's engine.

Having actually hauled wood through crazy logging roads on a cart behind a tractor, I can officially say that this game is a surprisingly accurate simulation.

The most insane Terrain Deformation I've ever seen.

To be fair, the devs should make the Parking Break text turn red any time it's on, including when you go into advance mode. I made the same mistake when I started playing. Turning it red would draw your eyes to it.

Funny seeing Jeff with a game he would never play on his own, broaden your horizons Jeff!
