I'm not american and it makes no sense to me to put the period "inside the quotation marks". That would be like doing this: (something [stuff)]

See? The period says that phrase is over, so you need to close the quotation before that, while inside the phrase. That's where you opened it in the first place!

Oh man, I always thought people did that by mistake. Knowing that's how Americans think it should be is just painful. Thanks, Obama.

I've been seeing this on anticipated lists on indie sites for a quite a while now. Looks fantastic.

That Jamaican accent only further stokes my desire for Beyond Good and Evil 2. FFS, Ubisoft, give Ancel the resources he needs - God only knows he's made you mad cash with Rabbids and the new Rayman games, seeing as how they were made by like 3 people.

No one lets you do ANYTHING in this game! I can't dip that shirt there! Don't take my pole! Don't sit at my bar! Don't walk on my ship! I mean, there's adventure gaming, and then there's getting absolutely NOTHING done.

The music is totally Monkey Island. In fact a lot of this is very Monkey Island. It's almost got a iMuse thing going on. The one weird thing is the mixture of 3D character models and 2D backgrounds. I kind of want the characters to be in 2D as well.

Glad both Vinny and Patrick like The Curse of Monkey Island. It's probably my favourite Monkey Island game, despite how amazing Monkey 2 is. Curse is something special.

Actually, just so we're accurate, the accent isn't Jamaican - it's supposed to be African.

But realistically here, it's easy to see the confusion given things like the main character's dreadlocks and the slow reggae musical beats.

Uhh...I don't know how else to say this but I don't think this looks very good. The 3D stuff sticks out like a sore thumb, the voice acting as they said is all over the place except for one or two characters maybe, and the design is "old-school" in the way adventure games in recent years have done some amount of iterating/innovating on. The game is older than this release sure and I know nothing about its background but I'm not seeing it here. 2D background art looks great though, and the music is good at conveying the mood and tone.

Shame since the concept is really cool, specifically an adventure game centering around Jamaican characters.

That's exactly it. They just need him to have some more things to say about the stuff in the world. "This won't work BECAUSE..." You can barely pick anything up. It's ridiculous that he spends the first 20 minutes with only 2 items in his inventory, having accomplished nothing, and having no further clues to advance. I would have quit this game before they even got on the boat.

Tim Schafer has a lot of great things to say about this sort of thing in the Double Fine Adventure Documentary. It's all really interesting.

Love that Vinny hinders his ability to get any real progress done by staying out of the room with the paintbrush until 30 minutes in.

This is certainly an adventure-ass adventure game. I really think these games need to move away from the mad-man's puzzle logic and lean deeper into dialogue intricacies more, but to each his own.

For some reason I only remember being taught to put the period after the quotations (living in the US at that), it makes a little more sense to me. When you put it inside the quotation, you're not implying the end of the actual sentence. And putting two periods in is just silly. I felt like putting it outside of the quotations was a logical compromise.

But it's English. We can change the language in any ways we want!

It's kinda funny how you play a gigantic arsehole in every adventure game. Somebody doesn't want to give you something? Well, trick him, scare him, kill him or lock him in a coffin for 30 years. Sure, that's reasonable

I've got an American education and I was taught to put punctuation inside quotations only if the quotation had the punctuation in it originally. So I wouldn't put a period in "Fear the hungries", because it's just a phrase. I never understood where people got "always put the period inside of quotations at the end of sentences". I have literally hundreds of different grammar books and I don't think any of them say that.

Both AP and Chicago style say, no, DEMAND that periods and commas are inside quotations.

Interesting article and I agree to some extent. Yet, I have to blame the player and not the game in this instance. They talked over obvious clues and then when given the chance didn't even follow their own logic. Thank the 9 for Drew.

If I'm recalling correctly, Drew didn't solve them getting stuck. The reason they got stuck was Vinny missed a paintbrush in a dark corner in the first room of the game.

That's not what I'm talking about, however. I'm talking about how limited the scope of the responses are. They had tons of ideas about what to do, but they were constantly shut down with 5 word replies about how dumb they are.
