Quick Look: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

I would really love a new 2D Zelda game :(

It's 3:00am local time here. Now i'm really not getting any sleep.

It almost seems as if this game began development as a straight up 3D remake of A Link to the Past.

Perhaps I should look into this. Haven't played a full Zelda title since Link's Awakening, but my 3DS could do with another title to play around with.

..There's never been a Zelda running at 60 FPS before, has there? This looks pretty slick in motion.

And the fact that they're experimenting with a proper open-world Zelda again gives me great hope for the franchise too. The original Zelda is still one of the best games ever made, and it seems strange how far modern console Zelda games have been moving away from that.

Exploration is an element we have lost so tremendously over the last decade of gaming.

They do know its a actual sequel based several decades after the events of LTTP, like same world and everything, its not parallel.....

This looks super good. I got Link to the Past on my Wii's Virtual Console and played some of it last year so I still remembered the sounds. The sound design for this game is spot on.

Would it help if I told you the world every single Zelda game takes place in is called Hyrule? (Pronounced High-Rule)

I was looking at the release date for this the other day and saw that the Japanese version's name straight-up has a 2 in it. I'm curious why they changed the English title from "a Link to The Past 2" but not that one.

Anyway, this looks great and I'm not even really a "a Link to The Past" fan. It just seems like solid fun with good puzzle mechanics. That Zelda 2 dungeon music for the Shadow Link fight was pretty sweet too.

Yuck at that Dark World music rendition. Best tune in the game and they ruined it. :-/

Also @brad you could upgrade the Master Sword in LTTP also two times. First one made it red and the second made it gold.

Same thing with Majora's Mask not being a total sequel to Ocarina. The beginning of MM has Link riding Epona, with flashbacks to Zelda and he runs into Skullkid (a character in OoT), and hell even The Wind Waker says that the Hero of Time rode away to some far away land after he defeated Ganon. I don't blame them for not knowing because Zelda games' stories all kind of bleed into each other to point it is almost like this one story being retold in different time periods from different people and descendents, each storytelling giving their own spin and accent on the legend.
