I really liked how this game had a lot of detective-y parts to it. You'd be running around gathering clues by way of interrogation, stalking, etc. Vizima in particular was a highlight of Witcher 1 for me. Story was solid, the combat was fun.. this game just sort of came out of left field and suckerpunched me with awesome. I know a lot of people didn't like the sleuthing and timed button presses for combat, but those things made me enjoy it more.
I have to say I'm glad this first game is getting some exposure after the sequel did so well. This first game was great too.

I'm also in the group that feels this way. As Vinny said, they streamlined a lot in Witcher 2. While I enjoyed that game too, I definitely preferred the more exploratory style in the first game, and spent way more hours there. Here's hoping the third game brings together the best parts of both.

I also liked the combat system from the first one a bit better (though it was far from perfect, it seemed more interesting / had more potential)

Just started playing this, after maybe 2 years of it sitting in my Steam Library. So far I'm liking it. However combat and camera will take some getting used to.

I really hope that we get a Witcher remake using the new engine after Witcher 3, to make for the best trilogy ever. I loved the Witcher when it was new, but after playing the sequel it was really hard to go back and finish Witcher 1. Witcher 1 had a rocky development and uses that living fossil that is Aurora Engine which means it was not as good as it could have been. CDP learned how to make better games since then and I would love a revisit to Witcher 1.
