Neat-o

I was actually expecting a longer quick look :o

As much as I wish JRPGs and lengthyass games could get more coverage on GB, it's difficult with the time you need to finish one - compared to any western developed game.. Found myself just about satisfied with my more recent purchase of Tales of Graces F and love Xenoblade (music helps a bunch), thanks for the QL, the game deserves some of the hype it's getting.
 
(Also: Best played with the Classic Controller. Freaking marvellous game WORTH BUYING A WII FOR. And I don't believe in the Project Rain hype)

(And bring on people who thinks it seems like any standard JRPG with PRESBUTAN mindless combat: In my opinion the game starts 20+ hours in (if you do sidequests to fill the time out, by that measurement))

I don't understand the fervor over this game. It seems pretty standard JRPG fare to me. Combat seems way to automated  as well.

Been waiting for this.

@DonChipotle: You sir are my new best friend. I went through the hassle of importing Xenoblade, and hacking my Wii and all that. Xenoblade is not bad by any means, but Trails in the Sky has some of the best writing I've seen in an RPG in a long time. MUCH better.

The best jRPG since the PSX era. No hesitation.

Having put 50 hours into the PAL version I can indeed confirm this is the best JRPG I've played since the SNES days. Got about halfway through that version of it. Picking up the US version this morning so I can restart and play it all the way through.

"So there's a threat level?" Yes, Brad. It's Threat Level Midnight! I always get excited about JRPGs, then I play for about five hours and realize I can't play one game nearly as they want me to. That's my own weakness; I'm glad these kind of games exist and wish more of them were made.

Patrick is shit awful at talking and playing games. This was agonising to watch! He talks about the game in an extremely convoluted while the on screen action consists of him walking away from points of interest or just walking backwards and forwards or in circles!

Hey Final Fantasy, take a nice long look this game and take some notes. Here's how not to fuck up an RPG.

Eh, there are more JRPGs that "get it" than people give credit for. Just got done playing Radiant Historia, that was a hell of a game. That said, I'm excited to start playing this one soon, it sounds great.

This was a good look at the game and I would definitely play this if I had a Wii.

This game seems better than I expected. I thought it's hype was largely probably due to the internet being the internet.

The PS3 is home to a lot of obscure JRPGs that get a bad rap largely because they have anime style graphics and situations. But it also has Disgaea and those games are alright.

@DonChipotle: Disagree. It's better than I even was hoping for. Don't own a PSP, so can't comment on Trails, but this is the best JRPG since FF6 IMO. Better than FF7. Far better. The voices in Japanese are fine and there's that option in all versions.

Should do a follow up Quick look because this is nothing. this isn't even covering 20% of what the game has.

ps. Doesn't the American version have the Japanese voices option like the European had?

Saying something is better than FF7 is not setting the bar high at all. Most FF games are better than FF7, so there's that.

It stops at around 22 minutes.. then again, Youtube has been acting all sorts of weird lately. It´s almost like back in 2004, when I had to wait for every single vid to load because streaming was so damn slow.

Would have preferred them just exploring Gaur because that place is really, really huge. Cleared and got the landmarks as soon as I got there. All I can say is FUCK those giant birds when I was doing that.

The only thing that's automated on the character you're controlling is the regular attacks. And that's the way it should be. There's no value in me mashing on a attack button. The strategy comes in the positioning and proper usage of skills. There's also a lot of other stuff going on in the battles that you don't even realize unless you're the one playing.

Xenoblade Chronicles Endurance Run!  The people (especially us non Wii owners) demand it!

It's a good game, and since the crew here generally seems to sorta avoid portables (which remains a huge shame), it makes sense why they'd see it as something of a saviour of JRPGs lately.

Still, that claim aside, it's a good game, which is really the important part. I could compare it to other JRPGs on consoles or portables all day, but there's no point. Unfortunately, my Wii is on the other side of the planet, so I never got to do a full play through of this. Buying a new Wii or shipping it over for a single game isn't really worth it either.

I mean... I know JRPG tastes vary wildly even among people who are generally fans of the genre as a whole, but... this game seems cool, and if it's half as good as everyone says it is, I'll be happy.

I would be disappointed at the shortness of the quick look because it seems like it barely scratches the surface of what the game has to offer, but I'm already buying this, so it's OK.

They should ported this to the 3DS. Would be a great fit!
