I'm not even sure what there was to complain about, for someone who had apparently only played Spelunky for 3 days, Patrick did amazingly well. Obviously he had quite a lot of luck too, but that was not all he had going for him.

Nice job on making it to Olmec Scoops! That was a hell of a run! Watching this Olmec fight play out pretty much reminds me of the first time I got to him. Only I ended up getting crushed.

Was Olmec taking damage from those shotgun blasts? It seemed like maybe some blood was coming off him when he was being shot, but if so that's news to me...

That's a pretty great way to start a new video thing (series? I guess we'll see). It was fun seeing him get farther than Brad did on Breaking Brad.

Harsh but if you had just sat on his head for a while he would have jumped in. He passed the exact position 4-5 times going back and forth before the upper two squares were bombed out. :( Very good run though!

Incidentally, I asked Chris Watters whether he'd be up for more Spelunky after Brad suggested he wouldn't play more without his advice, and he seemed super into the idea. This game is faaaantastic.

15 minutes in, Patrick you absolutely gotta take out the big spiders in order to get paste. Absolutely essential item, and you can take out the large spider with a single bomb thrown into the webbing beneath it.

Oh that Olmec run was a disaster. Fun to watch.

Seeing Patrick paying for stuff in shops when there is a weapon for sale :(

I think I have killed more shopkeepers than spiders by this point.

Well, that pretty much was how my first two or three trips to Olmec went. Over the top nervousness that led to a stupid death.

Olmec is also the reason why I never manage to get that damn 8 minutes achievement. I'm just way to slow in dealing with that guy.

After playing both extensively the vita controls feel much better.

I still prefer the 360. I have a really hard time aiming thrown bombs with the vita left stick.

Haven't played on PC but my personal preference is 360 > Vita > PS3.

Super fun. Much more up my alley than DotA.

Honestly he hesitated going down the hole himself after saying that's what he needed to do. Obviously going down the hole was the correct choice and Patrick didn't take it.

This was a lot of fun to watch today. Even though he's at the level of play that I was at when I first started playing, he did a pretty good job! He's got some stuff to learn, but that will come with time.

Also, get used to collecting treasure because that's what the Daily Challenge is all about. Well, you still want to get as far as you can, but the metric for comparing and competing is the $$$

That olmec trap was PERFECT. If he knew you can stay far enough away so that olmec doesn't move he could've blown the last 2 tiles easily and olmec would've fell right through instead of going into that off base ape shit paterne.

No ennemie spawns, no going back up the hole. Patrick would've beaten the game right there.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it in the stream, but @patrickklepek you should try sacrificing things on the altar.

These kinds of things don't work so well solo, especially with scooper there. Needs someone to join in, and watch him play just for the sake of banter.

A handful of some basic non-spoilery Spelunky tips for you:

1. You can whip items off an edge—easier than dropping them a lot of the time.
2. Rats will take an arrow hit for you.
3. There's always a mattock (“pickaxe”) at the bottom of a snake pit if you bomb it.
4. Unless you really need the health, sacrifice the damsel whenever you can. You can also sacrifice corpses and live enemies that don't die in one hit.
5. You can float onto spikes safely when you have the cape

P.S. I think it sucks that the Daily Challenge is ranked by the amount of treasure you collect.

It should be ranked by progress, and then treasure. I just can't bring myself to care about how much treasure I collected.

@patrickklepek When do you do these live? I would love to shout out some tips in the chat when needed.

Spelunky is pretty much the only game I play these days. Great game to go back to cause you can't ever master the game because of randomness. Keeps things fresh and always challenging. Add the fact that it's the perfect, quick, pick-up and play title.

So many moments through your run where I so much wanted to transfer some knowledge to you bro. lol

Pretty sweet run, Scoops. But goddamn, that shotty / jetpack combo nearly breaks the game.

That was a pretty sweet run. Never reached Olmec personally. Only the temple once and died.
